Castle
Explore 2,000 years of history at Cardiff Castle, built on a site first used by Roman invaders. The original fort constructed here was a rectangular structure much larger than the current castle, which was built during the Norman invasions of the late 1060s. Norman advance into Wales was often marked by the construction of castles, frequently on old Roman sites. Improved and expanded over the centuries, the castle is now a tourist attraction. Don’t miss a visit to the castle’s Firing Lane Museum of the Welsh Soldier, which is a joint regimental museum of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards and the Royal Welsh. Check online for special events, including concerts, lectures, jousting demonstrations, and plays. • Such a great sense of history! Definitely somewhere every visitor to Cardiff should go. The castle key is worth getting for those who live in Cardiff to come back whenever they like! Lovely views of Bute park from the top.
  • Great old place. You can actually climb the castle ruins. Lovely grounds for a picnic too. Somewhat pricey to get in but no where near like some other places.
  • A great guided tour made the experience very rewarding and informative. Interesting castle with an interesting history. A great way to spend time on a cold, wet January afternoon
  • Well maintained castle with fascinating history, much to see and good friendly guided tours. Frequent events on the lawned area in the middle of the site. Great transport links. Lots of places to eat nearby as well as it's own café. If you live and/or work in the city, you're entitled to a key to the castle (card) as it belongs to the people of Cardiff. The key gives you unlimited free access. Application process is quick and easy.
  • Very interesting. Open till 5pm. At least as of October 2016. Nice link to other Roman places nearby, as that castle is being build on old Roman ruins.
