Cardiff Castle, Cardiff

4.4/5 based on 3,600+ reviews on the web
Explore 2,000 years of history at Cardiff Castle, built on a site first used by Roman invaders. The original fort constructed here was a rectangular structure much larger than the current castle, which was built during the Norman invasions of the late 1060s. Norman advance into Wales was often marked by the construction of castles, frequently on old Roman sites. Improved and expanded over the centuries, the castle is now a tourist attraction. Don’t miss a visit to the castle’s Firing Lane Museum of the Welsh Soldier, which is a joint regimental museum of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards and the Royal Welsh. Check online for special events, including concerts, lectures, jousting demonstrations, and plays. • The Castle impresses with walls, the beauty of its interior and the view that one can have in the city. The walls of the Castle were used as a shelter during the aerial bombardment during World War II. Everything was preserved as at the time and today operates as a museum. Very interesting.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our day at the castle. I would suggest giving yourself 2-3 hours to visit. For the majority of castle's we have visited £12 is probably slightly dearer and £10 is probably better va...  read more »
  • A great tourist attraction for visitors. The grounds are a good size and there's load of outdoor space for younger children to run around. Inside, there's a great tour of the historic buildings where you can learn more about the history of Cardiff.
  • Here you have, in fact , a Castle, a tower and a War Museum. Each one worth a visit, so don´t miss this attraction, with one single ticket you can visit the whole area. Take care on the tower stairs, they are pretty slippery, and the steps are really narrow, but the view makes this issues disappear in a snap.
  • I visited Cardiff Castle as it's well-known to be one of the landmark attractions within Cardiff. The highlight has to be the central tower which is surrounded by a pretty moat, and postcard-worthy photos are often taken here (the tower itself, though, was small and not particularly noteworthy). The apartments were nice examples of a Victoria abode, and the library especially beautiful. Overall, though, not worth the hefty entry fee, and much preferred the quieter Castell Coch.
  • It's one of the main attractions in Cardiff. It's not very cheap but the visit worth it. They have audio guides in different languages and a nice walk around above and inside the walls, around and inside the castle tower and palace. It took us around 3 hours the full visit. In a sunny day this is a very nice way of spending your time.
  • Beautiful castle from the outside... unfortunately I was in the half of my group that arrived five minutes past last admission. The pictures I saw looked great and everyone else had a great time. All I can say is get there early - they're unreasonably strict with work admission deadlines.
