Bute Park, Cardiff

4.7
#1 of 15 in Parks in Cardiff
Once the grounds of Cardiff Castle, Bute Park exists as the principal park in the city of Cardiff, with 52 hectares (130 acres) of landscaped gardens and parkland straddling the River Taff. Explore Blackfriars friary, an excavated ruin of a medieval friary. The arboretum boasts a varied selection of trees, many of which are the largest in the UK. Follow the herbaceous border while using the park's plant guide to learn about the species of plants within the park. Search for the many sculptures within, especially the wooden carvings made from old tree stumps. A handy place to rest, the West Lodge offers a visitor information center, tearoom, and public toilets. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Cardiff holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Bute Park and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

A huge park, which thanks to Lord Bute was built in 1947 and was opened to the public. It's a huge park and it offers countless hiking trails. It invites you on a couch in the Sun to enjoy the countless plants and shrubs and listening to the birds singing and quacking ducks, also of the many world go by joggers. After the parks in London this park is the largest city park in Great Britain. and is right next to the Cardiff Castle located.

  • Beautiful! I love this park. I will sometimes go out of my way just walk through here if I'm going somewhere. The trees the have here are spectacular and it's great that on some of the trees they have little plaques to identify what you are looking at. There's large open fields which are used for walking dogs, sports and for sunbathers when it's sunny. The main path is part of the taff trail so it's frequent to cyclists and runners here. There is also a small shack cafe here which is popular among the regular visitors. There are also many exhibits, shows and events held here. Recently I visited the Royal Horticultural show here and the pictures shall be below among others.
  • Love this spacious park in the middle of the city centre. Always beautifully looked after no matter what time of year you visit. Big open spaces for the kids or dogs to run in. Lovely plants, trees, shrubs and flowers to admire as you walk at your own pace along the paths. 3 lovely spots to get a cuppa or fill your bellies and lots of benches to stop and watch the world go by.
  • Great Park, one of the best urban parks anywhere. It starts in the centre of Cardiff with formal flower gardens and gradually opens out to sports grounds and woodland. The river runs scenically throughout (Salmon leap at the right time of year). Countryside in the city , magic.
  • Great place to go walking in the city or take your dog's for a stroll. You can walk on both sides of the river. There are 2 cafes in the park, where one sell amazing frozen yogurt for dogs and my dog loves it. Coffee , however, could be improved
  • Amazing park and public space. My son could spend days here without leaving! The Secret Garden is definitely worth a visit.
