  • Place very nice, ideal for a picnic or simply to relax on the lawns which run along a small canal. We can however walk a bit more and return to the City Center by the small streets between Greyfriars Gardens and Westgate Gardens.

  • a walk along the River, here begins the via Francigena that carried the pilgrims from the tomb of Thomas Beckett in Canterbury Cathedral to Rome.

  • This is a nice walk along the river with gardens along the side, there is lots of benches so it was a good place for a picnic lunch  more »

  • Beauty and Peace a few steps from the high street. Great playground for the kids as well right next to it. Could happily sit there looking at the water and enjoying the calm for hours. Just lovely
  • Beautiful gardens with a Riverside walk along the Stour. Great on a summer day, but lovely during Autumn and on crisp winter mornings. A real family favourite
  • Flowers are always stunning no matter what the season. You can sometimes forget that you are in the middle of a city here. A well kept garden.
  • Fantastic park. Right in the city, however if you go through it you can walk all the way to Chartham along the river. Very clean and tidy. I liked the herb section. There are lots of interesting signs to read about history and about the plants and wildlife.
  • Lovely place to relax and play with children. Nice any time of year. Beautiful trees and lovely flowers!

Where to stay in Canterbury

To explore Canterbury at your own pace, book your rooms at a family-run hotel in the heart of this historical city. Staying in this area keeps you close to all of the city's main historical sites, as well as its major shopping center. Family-run hotels offer traditional values, warm hospitality, and fully-licensed bars and restaurants, all at a fraction of the cost of the big hotel chains. For an equally comfortable and affordable stay, consider one of many centrally located guesthouses, which feature elegant rooms and covered courtyards.
