St. John's College, Cambridge

(4.4/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Over five centuries of history and education come together at St. John's College, alma mater of three saints, six prime ministers, and nine Nobel Prize winners. Established in 1511 by Henry VII's mother, the photogenic campus stretches along both banks of the Cam River and features one of area's most photographed structures, known popularly as the "Bridge of Sighs." This masterpiece of decorative Neo-Gothic architecture joins the two riverbanks and often serves as the centerpiece of student pranks. Other campus highlights include a chapel designed by architect George Gilbert Scott, and a library filled with rare books, historical documents, and priceless manuscripts. • I personally found this college more harmonious and evocative of the more famous King's College. The entrance is free of charge and it is good to ask about what areas will be visited when you visit. The Church of St John for example is not always open. If you love the Gothic style and the English parks you'll love this place. The bridge of sighs is an outstanding architectural jewel. Try to proceed without making you discover by guards, because access is allowed only to college students.

  • Cambridge is a wonderful place full of wonders. The big drawback is that it was riddled with Chinese everywhere.

  • What a fab place to study, simply the best collage in cambridge. Architecture to die for, chapel beautiful, advent candlelight service is an experience not to be missed if you are all to get tickets.

  • One of the most beautiful colleges in Cambridge, with it's two buildings divided by river Cam and amazing bridges. It has an unique atmosphere to it and the staff is really friendly.
  • One of the oldest colleges in Cambridge, divided into two parts by river Cam. Buildings there are awe-inspiring. Very strict visitors' policy.
  • Largely disappointed by the food, and far too expensive of a bar. Also far too strict of a policy on wine drinking...
  • My favourite college in Cambridge :)
  • Stunning college and great food! The accommodation is excellent also.
