WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Burscough
(4.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Meet a vast array of waterfowl, insects, and other amphibious creatures at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre. Purchase some grain from the information desk or at the grain machine on the grounds, as many of the birds will feed directly from your hand. Check for feeding times and make sure you join the resident Asian short-clawed otter family for lunch. To stretch your legs and take in some of the natural beauty of the center, set off on the sign-posted reed bed walk. It’s approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) round trip and passes two wildlife viewing platforms. Learn about the ancient history of the area at the interactive Roundhouse Village, where Celtic Mere life has been recreated. There’s plenty more for children to enjoy, including a treehouse, climbing structure, and sand play area. Every day there is a free guided tour of the waterfowl gardens, or you can take a 40-minute guided boat tour for a small surcharge. Make WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre a centerpiece of your Burscough vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Burscough trip itinerary planner.
