Bristol Cathedral, Bristol

4.6
It took more than 700 years to build Bristol Cathedral, considered one of the finest medieval churches in Europe. Still in operation today for worship, community service, and private prayer, the cathedral began as an Augustine abbey. Visitors can still trace the original transepts, but it’s the tall Gothic windows and pinnacled skyline that will capture your attention. To understand the full majesty of the structure, it’s best to take a step back as far as possible on College Green where it is located. Entering the cathedral, be sure to be on the lookout for surprising details, including carvings of beasts imitating people in the Elder Lady Chapel. Guided tours are available, and you can book portions of the cathedral for private candlelit dinners.  You can plan Bristol trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • I love this cathedral. It's so peaceful and beautiful, with loads of hidden details. Its fantastic that it's open every day, and has free entry. Highly recommend for everyone!
  • Yesterday Open Doors Day offered the opportunity to look at the roof cavity and tower of Bristol Cathedral. It was awesome. The textiles, silverware and artefacts from the last cathedral in England to have a bellows powered organ reminded everyone what a unique asset Bristol Cathedral is. Worth a visit anytime.
  • Interesting cathedral that is worth a visit. Close to other attractions and restaurants to make for a good day.
  • An impressive and tranquil place. The garden is beautiful, and the perfect spot to relax and unwind before rejoining the madness of the streets outside.
  • Very nice piece of architecture. One of "must see" place in Bristol.
