  • We had a 5 and 7 year old and they were kept busy with the Highway Rat walk!! This is the second time we have visited for the children’s walk.  more »

  • I was disappointed at the lack of walking trails. They were pretty short and tame. The ones that were even strenuous were pretty easy and short. Grizedale Forest is much better with longer trails. I f...  more »

  • Whinlatter Forest Park covers a vast area of the North Lakes. Most visitors stay around the visitor centre, yet there are extensive mountain biking routes and great paths to walk on. There is a Go Ape adventure area set up in trees, good fun for children and agile adults.
  • A lovely place but not recommended by this reviewer as part of the C2C cycle route if you have a road bike or hybrid. The granite rock chippings are very hard to cycle on with traction difficult on some uphill parts. I'd stick to the road next time. But it must be a haven for a day's mountain biking.
  • A spectacular park and drive. The visitors centre and cafe are very welcome. The roads are very narrow in places and care must be taken. My last visit was to the Car rally, it snowed hard and so added to the excitement . Like all the Lake District well worth a visit. There are some really nice guest houses and hotels to stay in. If visiting a boat trip on Derwent Water is a must.
  • On what was a typical Lakeland rainy day, we thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the woods following one of the trails so the young children could do things on the way round, do much to do and had little time. Nice cafe at the end, to get a drink and tasty food.
  • I've been to Whinlatter a few times now mainly to ride my mountain bike around the trails there. The visitors center is well hidden in the woodlands on the side of the hill but easy enough to find. The center and its cafés, bike shop etc are very well maintained and very up to date. The scenery there is simply breathtakingly outstanding. Each time I go back I'm still in awe. The Lake District should be on everyone's bucket list. There's not much else to say other than, go explore for yourself!
