The Model Village, Bourton-on-the-Water
Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
The Model Village is a one-ninth-scale replica of the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, officially opened in 1937. Its remarkable detail took local craftsmen five years to create. The model represents how the town looked in the 30's and provides an interesting glimpse into the past. Examine the details of the village and discover its quirks and delights. Stand close to the town’s churches to hear the choir singing. Be sure to look out for the model of the Model Village itself. For a small surcharge you can also visit the Miniature World exhibition of highly detailed miniature scenes and room sets, including several moving miniature characters. The creation of this exhibition involved over 100 of England’s leading miniaturist craftsmen and women. A must see amongst the many things in BOTW. To see it in miniature is wonderful. Then a miniature of the miniature! Very well done.
A lovely place to wander around, fantastic replicas of the buildings in the village. Particularly enjoyed finding the buildings we had gone into during our visit to the village.

A very nice little attraction that is a replica of the realise village that even has a model village of the model village. This is not your normal "made of wood" model. Each building is made of Costswold stone and the detail is very good. Well worth a visit.
In the model village of Bourton-on-the-Water is a model village of the model village. Great idea but some more details would be great.
Someone had great fun creating this, and it's great fun to wander round! It's not the largest attraction, but it is fascinating, and really entertaining. It's a reasonable replica (not entirely accurate), and features its own model village... with a model village... with a model village...! Also, a really simple, but quite cool feature is the periscope, which creates the impression that the model village is the actual village - assuming you can see past all the legs of the other visitors. There are also some awesome little details (the churches play music; the water wheel goes round). Note that the Exhibition of miniatures is £1 extra.
Fun tourist attraction, well constructed and a good way to spend 10-15minutes on a sunny day.
Really nice place to spend an hour or so if you're in the area. Worth the entrance fee.
