The Model Village, Bourton-on-the-Water

#3 of 18 in Things to do in Bourton-on-the-Water
The Model Village is a one-ninth-scale replica of the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, officially opened in 1937. Its remarkable detail took local craftsmen five years to create. The model represents how the town looked in the 30's and provides an interesting glimpse into the past. Examine the details of the village and discover its quirks and delights. Stand close to the town’s churches to hear the choir singing. Be sure to look out for the model of the Model Village itself. For a small surcharge you can also visit the Miniature World exhibition of highly detailed miniature scenes and room sets, including several moving miniature characters. The creation of this exhibition involved over 100 of England’s leading miniaturist craftsmen and women. • Quite small but so is Bourton on the Water! Its worth the entry fee and its fun to pick out the buildings that you've seen. Might be a bit tame for the older child.  more »

  • Nice place to see. Tickets are not expensive . Model village made with a lot of details and passion. You can see that it's taken care off regularly. You will spend there maximum 30 min and pictures from this visit is a nice memory.
  • Lovely model village! We made this our first stop on our visit to Bourton and it was great fun spotting all the real cafes and shops after seeing them in miniature. The scale of the village is 1/9th which is a bit larger than other model villages and the way they are made from Cotswold stone makes the buildings really effective! Doesn't take long to visit but entrance was quite cheap and it's close walking distance to a few other attractions.
  • Adorable miniature town, recriated with an enormous attention to detail. I have seldom seen something quite like it, so it is worth the visit. While you are there, definitely pay to see the indoor miniature displays - it is worth the pennies. We were amazed at the little scenes, and the level of detail they displayed. We ended up spending a lot more time there than we anticipated!
  • It was such a delight to walk round here, you just have to visit if going near to the village. The details are unreal, so realistic. There's even a model of the model village in there. You can't help but imagine tiny little people in there house or in the garden using the miniature washing line to out there washing, some shops have people inside and the church. It's just lovely I'm sure every child would be amazed here and adults. So special to think the whole thing was built by one man with some help from his wife. Just lovely.
  • Friendly staff, a cheap but fun way to fill an hour. Don't miss it, hidden towards the end of the village but worth a visit.
