Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth

4.5
#2 of 48 in Museums in Dorset
Intended as a birthday present for Merton Russell-Cotes' wife Annie, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum is now an elegant gallery for contemporary art and museum artifacts. John Frederick Fogerty designed the Art Nouveau building, with interiors by John Thomas and his son Oliver. The hall's stylish design still feels fresh after over a century of use. Major temporary exhibitions are unveiled only twice yearly, but the permanent collection is on view throughout the year. After perusing the museum's collection, enjoy tea in the historic lobby of the Royal Bath Hotel next door. A most interesting eclectic collection of antiquity, with a good cafe, and easily accessible from town.  more »

  • Great place to visit. The building is beautiful inside and out. Its full of Curios from around the world including Hawaii. There's a coffee shop and seating areas.£6 for adults as of April 17. Its one of the go to places in Bournemouth and a must see.
  • The house, with the years of collected curios, superb art, sculpture, decoration, and detail, and a lovely peaceful garden is a wonder worthy of a prolonged and very enjoyable visit. The cafe, on the other hand is abysmal. Expensive, lacklustre and staff of poor training and aptitude even for Macdonalds.
  • From a historical view this art gallery is great, however the art is what makes the place. The only down side was that they didn't have a guide book
  • Such a beautiful place to spend a few hours, like stepping back in time and a lovely story of the owners who donated their house and pictures to the peple of Bournemouth
  • Here you will find a beautiful art collection display from the collection of Sir Merton and Lady Annie Russell-Cotes. Apart from Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite art, there are also works that were collected as souvenirs from the couple's travels around the world. The house, which is overlooking to the beach, is a gift of Sir Merton to Lady Annie.
