Lanhydrock House and Garden, Bodmin

(1,900+ reviews on the web)
Garden Historic Site
Widely regarded as one of the finest houses in Cornwall, Lanhydrock House and Garden is a late-Victorian estate featuring extensive servants’ quarters, sprawling green lawns, gardens, and thickly wooded areas. A fine example of a wealthy but unpretentious Victorian family home, the site’s kitchens offer a rare glimpse into the fascinating life "below stairs." Conversely, the large dining rooms and luxurious bedrooms introduce visitors to the elegant lifestyle once enjoyed by the Agar-Robartes family, the mansion’s former owners. Over 20,000 items are on display here, including original art and furniture. Explore over 50 rooms open to the public, and be sure to visit the site’s museum and secondhand bookshop. • lovely gardens and a very interesting house, a bit too many visitors to take it all in at a leisurely pace, but still worth the visit. One of the nicest houses on the NT membership.
  • Lanhydrock House is excellent, though sadly often cramped and crowded. However, that gives a good indication of the interest around this historic abode. There's a lot of interesting things to see, but be aware that it's easy to lose a couple of hours here and it can be tough to get a good look at things. This combined with the large house grounds and gardens make for a great afternoon or day out.
  • They said there was wheelchair and pushchair access but when we trekked down to the house one woman said we wasn't allowed my brothers or the other child's pushchairs in ! I think they could have said before when trekked down with both pushchairs to be told we have to leave them in a cramped little shed type of thing where anything could have happened to them !
  • Large park and one of the largest houses in the national trust - a day's visit is not long anough to see all
  • Really interesting worth a visit, loads to see loads to keep you interested
