  • Cheesewring is one of the highest points in Cornwall. It is located near the village of Minions. There is a Car Park near several paths which will lead to the Cheesewring itself. It is a good walk and...  more »

  • Its hard to imagine how these rocks/stones were put here. The weight alone its amazing, worth the walk and climb up the hill. Also say hello to the horses grazing.

  • I don't like giving 3-star reviews, as I want to enjoy the places I go. Unfortunately, this place deserved it, I feel. I ate here at the restaurant in the hotel, not as a guest. The first problem for me was the breaded seafood platter. What comes to mind when one hears the words 'seafood platter' is nothing close to this. Technically, yes, it was breaded seafood and it was served on something that meets the definition of a platter. However, it just felt lacking. Based on this and the meals others in my party had, the formula for food here seems to be to take a LOT of chips and peas and add the main part of the dish in the middle. That is to say that no real effort goes into differentiating one dish from another. This I would expect (and be fine with) at a Wetherspoon's chain pub, but this purports to be a long established hotel. I expected better. The other issue may seem minor, but my cheesecake was presented without a fork. That's pretty ridiculous to me. Additionally, the waitress took orders for ice cream without asking which flavours those in my party wanted and had to go and check what was available. The food was acceptable, but it just felt like not much effort had been put into it. Again, this is fine at a chain pub or Beefeater type place, where you know what to expect ahead of time. At a longstanding, independent hotel's restaurant, I expected better.
  • Good pub food and refreshments after a lovely walk
  • Arrived and waited at the bar for 10 minutes until the barman muttered about going to a table. Coke was flat, starter was good but the main meal, the Cheesewring Pork, was overcooked, tough and chewy. A huge disappointment considering they put their name on it. Our other meal, the chili con carne, was cold and bland. Patrons using the bathroom were heard from the restaurant, which greatly put us off. We wouldn't return, despite being situated in a great location with plenty to do in the surrounding area. Go to the Crow's Nest 10 minutes down the road instead.
  • We decided to have a few days away and do a couple of walks so we choose Bodmin moor, never been there before. Booked two nights at the Cheesewring Hotel and Pub on speck. It was a really great experience the room was modern and well decorated, clean and comfy. Despite it being a Pub we were not disturbed by any noise. The staff are friendly and accommodating but the pi├Ęces de r├ęsistance of our stay was the food. The food is all home cooked delicious and the portions sizes are ginormous. We have eaten in numerous hotels and restaurants but the Cheesewring for food quality, taste, portion size, and price as to be the best we have experienced to date. You will not regret a stay here and you have Bodmin moor to walk off the extra calories :)
  • Very busy on a Sunday, remember to book. Food is really good although service a bit scatter gun.
