Blackpool Illuminations, Blackpool

(3.4/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
Held every autumn since 1879, Blackpool Illuminations is a brilliant homage to the light bulb. The festival is also known as "The Lights" and "The Illuminations." It runs from late August until early November for 66 days. The light displays stretch from south to north along the Promenade for 10 km (6 mi), using over one million bulbs. In conjunction with the illuminated Promenade, the "Blackpool Festival of Light" showcases light and art exhibits and installations. Art cars constructed of lights make runs up and down the Promenade. Some of these trams have a long history and have won Heritage Lotteries to refurbish them to their former glory. • I go here most years and find that they are great and a good thing to put on after the main season has finished. I will return again when I am next in town when they are on.
  • We love illuminations so much, it's our new annual family tradition. We travel from Australia for this, can't wait to move to the UK so we can visit often. We love driving down the South half and walk...  more »
  • The Lights are amazing! They go on for miles and it is well worth walking along the front to see a lot of them but it'll take ages to see all of them. You can see see well by car (although the queues ...  more »

  • What a shambles .......... I have just returned from what I thought was going to be a nice few hours with my husband son and 3 year old grandson ..... driving through Blackpool Illuminations .... how wrong was I? ..... we drove from the pleasure beach end .... it took forever to get to the "collection point" ... we thought we had got over the worst of the waiting ..... but no it took us almost 3 hours to get to Coral Island ..... were we decided to call it a day!!!!! .... basically all we saw was plenty shandiliers and mermaids ..... very dissopointing! Doubt we will be going again !!! 😡
  • Fun for all the family but can get exceptionally busy making parking a nightmare!! plan ahead if you can lights came on about 18:30. Make sure you wrap up warm.
  • Stunning.... Worth checking out. Better experience whilst walking rather than in the car I think.
  • A nice experience for the family. I'd recommend wrapping up warm and walking from the South Shore to the Comedy Carpet and back before finishing with some nice, hot freshly made doughnuts from one of the stalls.
  • Visited the lightpool art festival - brilliant , thought provoking and sometimes just silly - worth seeing the shows , art installations and events -pick up a leaflet or go on the guided tours as some of the peices are in very obscure locations..
