  • If Time Team thought it worth a visit so should everybody else. It is a fascinating insight of the Roman occupation.

  • This is a substantial Roman Fort but, sadly, most of it is still covered. One part that makes this fort stand out from the rest is the bath house, which is quite exceptional; so much so that you can drop the street view man inside it!
  • Great spot! Roman lovers haven. Vindolanda just up the road !
  • Excellent Roman bath ruins, lots more yet to be excavated
  • Excellent Roman Fort. Its out of the way for most tourists heading for Hadrian's Wall but well worth a visit. Excavation work is ongoing. It was a huge cavalry barracks and the site covers large area much of it still unexplored. Dere Street runs through the fort and visitors can explore the bath house under cover. There is a Facebook group called "Vinovia" Binchester Roman Fort, with lots of very knowledgeable people who can answer questions about the site and the local area. Lots of pics and information here.
  • Read about it before you go and you will get more out of the experience. I just checked, and it is open on sundays !
