Museum of the Jewellery Quarter provides a guided tour around a time capsule of a jewelry workshop, where very little has changed since the early part of the last century. For over 80 years, Smith and Pepper produced jewelry from this workshop, which was founded in 1899. When the elderly couple retired in 1981, they simply locked the door. Everything was left as it was: tools on benches, overalls hanging on coat hooks, even cups of tea and jars of jam and Marmite. Demonstrations and stories will guide you through the 200-year history of ancient crafting skills that made Birmingham the center of the British jewelry industry. The Earth Riches gallery showcases jewelry made from a wide range of material found in the natural world, including whale tooth, coral, diamond, and platinum. Original jewelry created by local designers and jewelers is available to purchase from the museum shop. • The most fantastic time warp. The manufacturers walked out of the factory leaving all the machinery and records in place. Extraordinary place. Well worth the visit. The guide was superb.
  • Although we had never heard of this place my wife and I agreed to visit with friends and we are both delighted that we did. To call this place a museum is to limit the experience, it has been called a 'time capsule' and this is really true. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting and bought alive this unknown world. Truly a most interesting experience.
  • Visited this while on a trip round the jewellery quarter. It was a good look into the life of a jewellery workshop and the way items were made up until the 80's. The guide was very knowledgeable, well worth a visit.

  • Really enjoyed visiting and going on the tour. Its a unique experience, the preserved jewellery workshop from 1981 gives a real feel of how the industry worked years ago. Well worth a visit, the price is very reasonable, tour guides excellent and plenty to see for at least a couple of hours.
