Swallow Falls, Betws-y-Coed

4.0
#1 of 6 in Parks in Betws-y-Coed
Waterfall · Nature / Park
Originally known as the Foaming Waterfall, the cascading waterfall system of Swallow Falls offers dramatic views from various vantage points. Take the hiking trail to the top of the falls, which includes many rest areas for taking pictures or picnicking. While the view is more impressive with more rainfall, it can also make for treacherous footing. The falls are accessible by car or on foot from the nearby town of Betws and Coed. Be sure to carry coins for parking and entrance fees as change is not given. There is a small public house in a hotel across the street if you feel like having a warm drink after the hike. • We visited the falls for the first time in 30+ years. One immediate benefit is that the old coin machine for entry has been supplemented by contactless at the entrance. We were the only visitors at...  more »
  • Photos of the falls dont do it justice, we saw them when they were full. Well worth the £2 fee, if you are able walk down the steps to the bottom for different views  more »

  • You can either view Swallow Falls from the main road (the A5 where parking is limited) and pay to get in, or you can view it from the other side of the river and it's free. We did both, starting off at Pont-y-Pair bridge in Betws-y-Coed, there is a path opposite the shop called Cunninghams which runs more or less parallel to the river up through some lovely woodland and fields. If you search the internet there are some step-by-step guides you can follow which are very good if you are worried about getting lost. This route does have some steep inclines and follows a few clifftop paths but is generally pretty safe and easy going. Once at Swallow Falls, there is a viewing point with a bench for a rest and photo opportunity, but you are still actually quite far away from the river. The best views of the falls are from the other side, but you have to pay for the privilege! We continued our walk up towards the A5 where there is a road bridge across the river and then you follow the road back towards Betws-y-Coed, about 1.5 miles later is the entrance to the falls. Costs £2 for adults and £1 for kids. Here you get fantastic views of the falls and feel really close to hear the thunderous water, but you have to share the view with lots of other tourists. From here, it's another couple of miles downhill back into the town. The whole round trip seeing both sides was about 7 miles and took us about 3 hours. Swallow Falls are magnificent and are a must see if you are in the area.
  • Gorgeous Waterfalls, streaming water you can splash around. Good parking £2-5 whole day. Nice walking tracks 1 to 15 km. Mind some tough climbs for elderly. Kids will enjoy all the time. Take back packed with water, sandwiches and towel. Follow social distancing and keep safe. Good family day out for 5-8 hours. Go for it, long drive on A5.
  • The falls were amazing. Suoer short wake from parking to the falls. It costs £2 per person. It has a few different view points. Very kid friendly
  • One of Wales' finest beauty spots. The falls are rugged and beautiful and the environment is unspoilt woodland. The attraction costs £2 for adults and £1 for children which is very reasonable by today's standards. The rushing noise of the water is loud, but somehow soothing at the same time. There are plentiful vantage points for great photos of this lovely natural attraction.
  • Beautiful and underated waterfalls. It is easy to get, you can literally park your car metres from it and a nice opportunity to see hiw Snowdonia has beauies everywhere and some of them are so easy to access. Entrane in only £2, plus £2 parking. Don't miss it if passing by!
