Titanic's Dock and Pump-House, Belfast

#9 of 105 in Tours in Belfast
Nowhere else on earth can bring you this close to Titanic – the world’s most famous liner, built here in Belfast. She sat here in this very dry dock on the eve of her first and last voyage in April of 1912.

Titanic is remembered for the dramatic story of her sinking, but in 1912, she was an icon for all that was great about the 20 th century.

  • Café 1404 is currently closed, and it's not possible to get through to the dry dock area with the information boards, nor into the pumphouse or down to the dock floor. Disappointing, as this wasn't me...  more »
  • My time was limited, and I should have started earlier to see everything, but by the time I got to the pump-house it had closed. However, I did manage to see the dock itself that was the birthplace of...  more »
  • The dry dock is definitely a much more low key, less touristy attraction. You pay the entrance fee in the adjacent restaurant and they direct you to a door that takes you out onto the dry dock. It rea...  more »

  • Great to see the Titanic's Dock and Pump House. Interesting to see the old building and the pumps down below. Nice cafe in part of the building. Was in as part of a tour and the tea/hot chocolate was nice to get but the mince pies were lovely and warm. Nice atmosphere and great layout. Thompson dry dock beside it is great to see, really impressive.
  • Very interesting place. Not really much to see in respect that the titanic was built in this huge dock. Nice to visit the actual birth place of the titanic
  • Been here now several times and along with HMS Caroline and the surrounding area it great for a walk to see the sites of the Titanic quarter and then relax with a coffee and a snack or more at the pump house.
  • Really nice! Worth the visit.. Better than Titanic
  • Easy to underestimate, very interesting tour. Took some visitors (to NI) to it, and was pleasantly surprised at just how interesting it was myself. The scale of the slipways are unfathomable until you're stood in them, and if you take the time to review the info boards placed around it (which are well placed, and photos are to-scale from position of reading the board) you get a tremendous sense of perspective. Diversifies info not just on Titanic but to greater Belfast area (and beyond) of the period also. Pump house itself isn't preserved as well as I'd like, but the slipways are the star of the show. We'd done the Titanic Experience tour nearby only a few days before which helped our enthusiasm/experience of the slipways I guess.
