Rex Bar, Belfast

4.1
#59 of 81 in Nightlife in Belfast
Dating back to the 1865, the Shankill's oldest public bar is steeped in the history and tradition of the area, Actors such as Hollywoods hotshot Vince Vaughan, Tim Robbins and Tim's missus Susan Surandon are among the the international imbibers - no doubt all were keen to experience the real belfast. The bar sits beside some of the most photographed murals in Northern Ireland depicting Sir Edward Carson signing the Ulster Covenant and the untouched interior is festooned with flags, t-shirts and curious, paying testament to it's distinctly Unionist locale. Make no mistake, though, all tourist are made welcome no matter their political persuasion. And if you fancy a neck-tingling tale to accompany your pint, ask amiable owner Mark about the resident ghost.

  • Great othentic bar great people make you very welcome
  • Cosy bar with great food. A fine range of local draught and bottled , beers and ciders. The menu is wide ranging and very popular with regular customers. The Steak Sizzler is a must.
  • Brilliant as usual, everyone very friendly and welcoming.
  • Was in the bar once I’m from Dublin thought when they heard my accent I’d be told to get out but served me and I had a laugh with a the Barman and a few of the locals once you don’t get into politics in Belfast you should be reasonably safe in a unionist area.good pint of bass too
  • Best old pub on the shankill road friendly staff always warm welcome full of characters couldn't wish for a better pub
