Belfast Castle, Belfast

3.8
History and fine dining come together at Belfast Castle, which holds a prominent position 120 m (400 ft) above sea level and provides panoramic views of the city of Belfast and Belfast Lough. Dating back to 1870, the castle was designed in the Scottish baronial style by architect Charles Lanyon. One of the area’s most popular wedding reception venues, the castle includes a well-stocked antiques shop and an informative visitor center. The castle’s restaurant serves meals for all tastes, from light snacks to gourmet evening meals, prepared using only the freshest and finest local produce. When you visit the castle, don’t miss a chance to photograph the iconic Napoleon’s Nose, a basalt outcrop believed to have inspired Jonathan Swift’s novel "Gulliver's Travels." • Nice building, beautifull view. Funny garden; can you spot all the cats hidden in the details? Nice to visit in the evening when it is quite and you can see something.  more »

  • Well kept grounds. Dogs to be kept on lead so children can enjoy the embankments. Amazing views over Belfast and surrounding areas. The castle itself is a historical building. There are disabled parking bays near the entrance into the castle building. Toilets available and information area where there are information leaflets in other languages that are helpful. If you enjoy walking they have well signposted walks up the Cavehill above the castle grounds. Well worth the visit
  • Very pretty and scenic place. Beautiful building and gardens on a hillside location with fantastic views over Belfast Lough and surrounding countryside.Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food wise, it's not really up to the standard expected from a supposedly high end restaurant and tourist attraction. Could put more effort into the tourist attraction side of things as it's left up to visitors to find their own way around, also the video information screen was not working when I was there. A busload of Japanese tourists arrived while I was there and I felt disappointed that it wasn't up to the standard they would be expecting.
  • Courtyard and the castle were very pretty. Much smaller than i expected and not much to see or learn about, but still worth the trip up. The real view comes from hiking up cave hill behind it and seeing the whole town! Didn't stop at the cafe or restaurant so i can't rate those sadly. There's a small bit of history offered and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
  • An old castle now turns into a government building. Only accessible by car/taxi/uber, but not a public transport. Every room has now got a new function as either conference room, dining room or party room for special occasions. I love it as I can travel in and out almost every area of the castle. The toilets are marvelous, so please have a try.
  • The place near cave hill which is an interesting trek.. The view from top of cave hill is breathtaking.. can go for a trek any weekend and come back by noon..
