Belfast Castle, Belfast

3.8
History and fine dining come together at Belfast Castle, which holds a prominent position 120 m (400 ft) above sea level and provides panoramic views of the city of Belfast and Belfast Lough. Dating back to 1870, the castle was designed in the Scottish baronial style by architect Charles Lanyon. One of the area’s most popular wedding reception venues, the castle includes a well-stocked antiques shop and an informative visitor center. The castle’s restaurant serves meals for all tastes, from light snacks to gourmet evening meals, prepared using only the freshest and finest local produce. When you visit the castle, don’t miss a chance to photograph the iconic Napoleon’s Nose, a basalt outcrop believed to have inspired Jonathan Swift’s novel "Gulliver's Travels." • Things that have impact on the castle the castle itself was built in the traditional sandstone is great, but didn't. However, garden and distant views are worth a look. By the way, parking and admission is free.

  • It was fun to see the castle, but it would have been cool to have the opportunity to enter it. You only need about 15 minutes here to take pictures of the castle, garden and view.  more »
  • Very nice surroundings. Building of charming architecture. Breathtaking view of Belfast and as the sky was cloudy, it was possible to see the coast of Scotland

  • Very scenic location and the walk up to the castle was very nice as well. The garden was amazing and so was the view of the city from it. Only slight negative is that the restaurant in the castle should have more hot meal options. Other than that, a great place to visit! 😊
  • Great views though best ones reserved for 1st and 2flr event parties. Public only on ground and lower ground. Still worth a visit though. Walks best on sunny dry day where views are spectacular over Belfast bay
  • Great view of Belfast from this location. The Castle and the grounds are very scenic. Down below is a reasonable but small restaurant and coffee shop. Well worth visiting and a good starting point if you wish to climb to the top of Cavehill.
  • Love for a coffee or a meal. The grounds are beautiful with lovely views of belfast. Easy access to the cave hill park.
  • Excellent experience. Food and wine were wonderful and I have to commend the staff, who were efficient, knowledgeable and most friendly.
