Belfast Castle, Belfast

3.8
History and fine dining come together at Belfast Castle, which holds a prominent position 120 m (400 ft) above sea level and provides panoramic views of the city of Belfast and Belfast Lough. Dating back to 1870, the castle was designed in the Scottish baronial style by architect Charles Lanyon. One of the area’s most popular wedding reception venues, the castle includes a well-stocked antiques shop and an informative visitor center. The castle’s restaurant serves meals for all tastes, from light snacks to gourmet evening meals, prepared using only the freshest and finest local produce. When you visit the castle, don’t miss a chance to photograph the iconic Napoleon’s Nose, a basalt outcrop believed to have inspired Jonathan Swift’s novel "Gulliver's Travels." • The Castle passed to bus N1a (also in that direction went buses 1 d, 1e, 1f) of stopping Upper Queen bus N1a to stop Street Strathmore Park, then walk uphill for about 2 km. Entrance to the Castle and the castle itself during my visit was free. Little castle, adjacent to the castle territory even less. Initially tourists were few, they were all busy looking for cats in the garden. I went to the bar (1 floor). Together with a glass of Guinness (approximately £5 per glass) disappeared all tourists (about 19:00). Without tourists this place seemed perfect! It seems to me, that's where I postojala or posidela on each service, each table, repeatedly bypassed all around. Something magical and neotpuskajushhee me that night was in the garden. Several times I went to the exit and returned back one more time to see the Castle, garden and enjoy views across the Irish Sea and the capital of Northern Ireland. p.s. throughout the Castle WI-FI worked perfectly.

  • This is a great large mansion with a lot of history. Worth a stroll through the gardens. There is a restaurant I hear is great but we didn’t go. Many weddings take place here. There is also a quite nice and interesting playground worth taking your kids to.
  • Beautiful grounds, but small - can you find the 9 cats (statues or other related artwork)? Beautiful building from the outside, and at least free to walk around Had a private reception going on, so could not see any of the first floor. Rest of castle pretty well closed off, so couldn't see rooms, etc. There is a nice playground very close with parking if the kids need to burn off more energy than running around the gardens.
  • Quite close to where I live so been there a lot. The grounds are a favourite of my 8 year old granddaughter who loves the cat garden. You can walk up the Cavehill from there as well. The castle has some displays on the history and geology of the hill and lovely views over Belfast and the lough. Food available and its a good place for an evening meal. Functions-can be great. I have been to weddings, birthdays and a number of other events. The only issue is with the range of drinks available. They did run out of one of the popular beers one time
  • Beautiful location near Belfast zoo, about 20 minutes from the city centre of you are driving. The castle can host weddings, and offers beautiful gardens to walk around, with adequate parking available. The cave hill nature walks also begin and end within the castle, roughly an hour long walk through the forest and up to cave hill. Walking shoes / hiking boots would be recommended as it is dirt paths and quite steep in places.
  • Very nice to visit for an afternoon coffee in the garden. Very cheap as you would expect high-end prices in such a castle. The service is not that good, however, the nice castle and view is nevertheless worth it. Very nice garden!
