Pulteney Bridge, Bath
Categories: Bridges, Flea Markets, Shopping, Tourist Spots
No ordinary stop on your tour of the region, Pulteney Bridge is one of only four bridges in the entire world designed to be lined by shops on both sides. The bridge was built in 1773 for William Pulteney, whose wife had inherited property on the other side of the Avon River, directly across from the city of Bath. Pulteney was something of a visionary, recognizing in the simple village settlement across the water a great potential for becoming a prosperous city suburb. Pulteney hired noted Scottish architect Robert Adam, who based this elegant structure on the bridges he saw and admired in Italy. Stroll across the river at dusk, and photograph the grand old bridge as the sun sets over the landscape. Earlier this year we visited Florence in Italy where we saw the Ponte Veccio bridge, this is obviously designed on this a stunning addition to a beautiful Bath
If going to the Roman Baths or abbey it will take ust a couple of minutes to get to the bridge which is very pictoresque and provides nive views of the city centre and adjacents parks

To cross the bridge, see the stalls (of day) and down a flight of stairs on the other side. Access to a small park with benches to enjoy the view and the sound of watershow original
Best flower shop I've encountered in many years. Quality.
The ladies here truly saved our day. We had purchased our button holes elsewhere and traveled to Bath for our wedding. Unfortunately the men's button holes clashed colour-wise. There followed a mad dash around Bath which included purchasing a colouring pen from an arts and craft shop!! We arrived in Pulteney Bridge Flowers just before they closed. They produced some beautiful button holes in time for the ceremony the following morning. Thank you for your excellent service.
We took a stroll along Grand Parade, across the Bridge, then the few steps down into the park.A nice stroll alongside the river with nice views of Pultney Bridge, Bath Abbey etc, then across North Parade and a loop back to where we strarted, well worth 30 minutes on a beautiful Spring day.
As a Wedding Planner I regularly work with Viv and her staff from Pulteney Bridge Flowers - I highly recommend them, top quality and nothing is too much trouble as they care about what they do.
