Mr B's Emporium Of Reading Delights, Bath

4.9
#4 of 21 in Shopping in Bath
Quaint and charming, Mr B's Emporium Of Reading Delights has something for everyone. This little independent bookshop is as educational as is it quirky. Grab a book from an old-fashioned bathtub, and curl up in an easy chair in front of a cozy fireplace. You'll find a variety of books to choose from, all seemingly hand picked for their originality. The store also offers the unique chance to sit down with a librarian one-on-one, munch on tea and cookies, and discuss your reading interests. After the discussion, the librarian will then provide a long list of book suggestions that meet your interests. The shop is known for its high level of service, due in part to its knowledgeable staff. This book store is an absolute delight just as it says in its name. It is unusual in such a good way. No lists of the most popular authors or 3 for 2 etc. One can go to any supermarket for that. This ...  more »

  • Super friendly staff and a really nice book selection! Having the natural light coming in the windows makes the shop feel airy and comfortable. A very pleasant spot to find a new book!
  • The quintessential independent book shop. Huge stock, friendly and knowledgeable staff, quirky, bright and highly engaging displays. I'm sad we don't live closer! We would highly recommend their "book spas" - a meeting with a book seller over coffee and cake, where they suggest books from their own experience that they think you would enjoy. You couldn't imagine anything further from a slick soul-less high street book shop. A truly wondrous place!
  • Brilliant independent bookshop run by lovely people with a good eye for interesting books, especially fiction. The kids section is very good too.
  • Certainly has a lot of unique selling points, and three floors of delicious Georgian higgledy piggledy cosiness. Lots of comfy seating and free tea/coffee/water. Pleasant family of staff and intelligent selection of books for the limited space, with miniature reviews peppered all over the place. The shop is let down only by a slight air of pretentiousness; nevertheless, it's an unmissable attraction if you're visiting Bath.
  • Imagine stumbling into the perfect indy bookshop, crammed with incredible books, curated as beautiful artifacts, some arranged into dependable recommendation lists, staffed by people whose passion for reading is impressive and infectious, where browsing is encouraged, armchairs provided, coffee and tea are brought to you and you won't want to leave. Now go to Mr B's and do just that.
