Get a better understanding of American history and culture at American Museum & Gardens, one of the most extensive collections of Americana outside the United States. Located near Bath on the 48.5 hectare (120 acre) grounds of Claverton Manor, the museum follows the story of America from its earliest settlers to the 20th century. Learn more about the founding fathers, the wild West, the Civil War, and Native Americans. Check out the textile display that includes over 40 original quilts, as well as the folk art gallery with various oddities. Step outside to wander the colonial herb and Mount Vernon gardens, modeled after the grounds of George Washington's home. Great time here, spent over four hours in the museum and quilt exhibition. Still didn't manage to see all of the gardens. The American heritage section was particularly well laid out and very interesting.

Fascinating collection that helps you understand and appreciate the making of and history if America. Fabulous setting - gardens are beautiful with amazing views. Reasonably priced restaurant with interesting food.

Great little museum with a lot of interesting history. The volunteers knowledge and interaction made it even more interesting. Grounds and garden's are well kept.

I had to rush around the museum because I have an impatient toddler, but it gets 5 stars for the garden alone - absolutely stunning and so well kept, and what a view! Just a lovely place to visit, whether you want to learn about American history or not!!

A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Plentiful parking and beautiful gardens. The museum is well laid out with artifacts set out as 'rooms' so you can really get a sense of how they were used. The quilts and textile room were of particular interest to me and well worth the money.
