The Castle, Bangor

4.1
#1 of 14 in Museums in Gwynedd
The mammoth 19th-century neo-Norman The Castle offers opulent furnishings inside and a spectacular natural setting outside. In the halls, see a 900 kg (1 ton) slate bed made for Queen Victoria, elaborate carvings, plasterwork, and mock-Norman furniture. The castle also has a large collection of paintings that you could spend hours gazing at. The restored kitchens are a hit with visitors, and the stable block contains two museums: one for industrial railways and another for model railways. Outside the buildings, be sure to explore the surrounding parkland, exotic tree and shrub collection, and enchanting Victorian walled garden. • We visited on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. There were only a few people in there but staff were on hand to quickly see to us- for a bar it was very clean. Quick service, the food we ordered was tasty - we were happy with our visit
  • Walked in to a quiet pub with tables littered with plates and glasses. Sitting for twenty minutes and no one cleaned our table. Ordered food and still no one cleaned our table yet the pub was still quiet. A lady came over to our table and slammed condiments down (even though some already there) The food arrived to our dirty table I was too hungry at this point to complain Food was ok but there was no salt my partner asked for salt and we were told that she’d go get her bucket. She surly arrived with a bucket of salt?!?!? Asked if we wanted the salt cellar filling we said well I suppose so......and she walked off...again?!?!? All in all - dirty tables, disorganised staff
  • Pleasant ambience. Extensive menu of reasonably priced food. Comfortable seating and situated next to the Cathedral in the city centre. Am a regular patron.
  • Very nice food. Good price and service
  • Was there looking for some breakfast. See some old guys walked in and soon as I walked to the door, a young staff immediately told me that they are not open yet and I have to wait for 15 mins. I asked they why are those people having a pint inside and he completely igorned me. I then asked the other staff and she was very nice that she told me I can come in early. Please people be careful about the male staff inside that they are rude and extremely unfriendly, no smile yet let the other people to put into the queue. Maybe because I am Asian.
