Upton House & Gardens, Banbury

Garden · Wildlife Area
Different than other popular country houses, Upton House & Gardens thrived in the 1930s. A venue for lavish weekend parties, Lord Bearstead remodeled the house to be a millionaire’s ideal country getaway. Try your hand at a game of pool or play the large grand piano. Ask the staff about the extensive art collection. Stroll through the sprawling, thriving gardens. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn or order a meal from the restaurant--they use ingredients sourced directly from the gardens. Parking is free, but no pets are allowed. Make Upton House & Gardens a centerpiece of your Banbury vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Banbury trip itinerary builder.

  • I am glad I am a National trust member because I would have begrudged paying the admission fee earlier today. The best part was the woodland walk on the return to the car park. The staff as always...  more »
  • Upton house is a very attractive medium-sized stately home built from the honey coloured stone typical of this area. The gardens are also medium-sized - not as vast as a Blenheim or Waddesden but...  more »
  • The boxing day hunt is a family tradition at Upton House. We hope to repeat it as soon as possible. Thankyou  more »
  • We were disappointed that so little of the grounds were open to walk around, but we understand that the national trust has been stopped from allowing volunteers to work in the gardens, roll on 2021
  • Walk round the back of the house, doesn't look like much but wait until you walk to the edge of the lawn - epic!
  • Very disappointed as you don't let mobile phone calls and could not finish on the Web site to finish so we couldn't book
  • Unfortunately the post code is Oxfordshire so Tier 2 but the house itself and the cafe are over the border in Tier 3. So the house is closed and you can only get takeaway from the cafe and there is nowhere to sit. Not very disabled friendly at the moment. Still beautiful grounds if you are able, and the staff are really lovely
  • Was lovely to be able to visit again! Coffee from cafe undrinkable though. Thank you for opening.
