The Glenlivet distillery is a distillery near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland that produces single malt Scotch whisky. It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, and the production place of the Scottish whisky of the same name. It is described in packaging and advertising as "The single malt that started it all". It was founded in 1824 and has operated almost continuously since. The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II. The Glenlivet distillery has grown in the post-war period to become one of the biggest single malt distilleries in order to keep up with global demand; The Glenlivet brand is the biggest selling single malt whisky in the United States and the second biggest selling single malt brand globally.Today, the distillery is owned by the French alcoholic beverages company Pernod Ricard and they oversee the distillery's production of 5,900,000 proof litres per annum. The majority of this – enough for 6 million bottles – is sold as The Glenlivet single malt, with the remainder being used in Pernod Ricard's blended whisky brands.ProductionThe distillery draws water from Josie's Well and other springs a short distance from the distillery. The malt comes from Crisp Maltings, Portgordon. Glenlivet's stills are lantern shaped with long, narrow necks, all of which helps to produce a light tasting spirit.Using our online itinerary creator, Ballindalloch attractions like Glenlivet Distillery can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

It took a little over an hour and was very good. The Group was small with less than 10 people and's many interesting information about the Whiskey were mediated sympathetic and locker manufacturing. There's another nice product sample at the end. Highly recommended.

The leadership passes a mill model with the explanation of the processing of barley, past the Gährbottichen up to the stills. Before the tasting, even the visit to the warehouses comes with a tasting of a young single malt directly from the barrel. Since this is not a pleasure, every expert is clear. The tasting gives you the opportunity to test the 15 to 18-year old whisky. Who must drive, can buy jar to fill the glasses, so the tasting in the B & B / Hotel can be rescheduled. The whole thing takes 5/4 hours.
We were based in Elgin and decided go out for a drive as it was raining. Lovely drive into the edge of the Cairngorms. Didn't do the tour but had a wander around the visitors centre and a drink in the... more »
If you like a good malt whiskey then this distillery needs to be checked out, lots of history and information is available from the very informative staff. There is an option to taste different malts, lots of bits and pieces to buy as well. The distillery tour is not the cheapest at £30 but it is well worth a visit.
Really nice place. I have visited this distillery in several occasions and never disappoints The tour is so informative with a wee drum at the end. Everyone is really friendly and knowledgeable.
Very good distillery tour. The huge mash tum and seamless copper stills are very impressive. The first Whisky tasting in by the warehouse with the Whisky taken directly from the barrel with a copper dog is a nice touch. The three tastings were all generous pours. Sarah was a great tour guide, cheery and informative.
The tour is one of the best I have ever been in. Very detailed in the process (of making whiskey). There are tastes which includes a tasting from a cask! The guides are very nice and know a lot about whiskies and the distillery itself.
The standard tour was fantastic. We went during the week which meant that it wasn't too busy - there were seven people on the tour in total, and the guide was great. She was very personable and answered all the questions that we had for her. The tour captured each stage of the whisky making process, including a complementary wee dram or two at the end. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
