Culzean Castle and Country Park, Ayr

4.4
#1 of 39 in Things to do in Ayr
Historic Site Specialty Museum
With its majestic architecture, antique furnishings, immaculately kept gardens, and seaside location, Culzean Castle and Country Park serves as a fine example of 18th-century high living. The Marquess of Ailsa used to live here, and today you can freely explore the castle and its surrounding grounds. On your self-guided tour, take in views of the sea from the round drawing room and check out one of the world's largest collections of swords and pistols in the armory. Outside, view the stone grotto and fruit-filled greenhouses of the walled garden and stroll along 4.8 km (3 mi) of beach. The castle is one of Scotland's best places to watch bats, and you can also see a range of other wildlife along Happy Valley woodland trail. For a deeper look at the other historical buildings and sites dotting the grounds, sign up for a ranger-led tour. • Awesome place to come to as it has so much to offer. The castle is beautiful and interesting, the beach is a wonderful find. The swan pond has had a lot of money pumped into it recently with the pirate themed adventure playground and car parking. What an amazing day out that I've been doing for over 30 years.
  • Amazing castle venue. You can have info about each room with local guides. The outside of main building offers a great day of exploration. Best it to get early in the day to the place, as there's lots of places to see
  • Beautiful castle set within a country estate. Loads of different routes to walk around with their is also a large activity playground to keep kids of all ages entertained.
  • This place is huge! It's also very well maintained and has a lot to offer. Great day out!
  • Amazing find. The rooms have Lego figures hidden for the kids to find. Beautiful inside and out. Lots to see and do. Plus you can go down to the water below.
