Fantastic lunchtime meal! Extremely pleasant and attentive staff. Chicken salad was excellent, lovely flavour and ample amounts of chicken. Chips cooked to perfection and lightly salted! Highly recommended
Describe my experience???? Horrendous!!! You need to name a tv show after your restaurant "from plate to trash"!!!! Travelled all the way from Sydney Australia to Axminster with us all excited to try the food! It was crap mate! Soggy chips, bland pork crackle, a chicken salad that was wilted and tasteless! It all went back, we paid the bill walked out and headed to Tuckers Inn five mins down the road at Dalwood and had a feast! Don't waste your time people!!!! For shame Mr River Cottage Man!! FOR SHAME!!!
The tired awning should have indicated the impending culinary gloom. Thimble sized portions of mediocre eventually graced our table. We ordered two vegetarian meals ,a rubbery liver and mine, the fish and chips. The option I often order as it is really difficult to bugger up, erroneous. A diminutive insipid piece of hake appeared with soggy batter, only at one end I grant you, served on a sheet of paper on a plate, for some unfathomable reason. With chips supplied in a small tin which I deplore. I left hungry, go to the local pub. On the bright side the staff were lovely.
It's lively and interesting. We only had coffee this time but had an excellent Sunday lunch a couple of years ago. Loos could do with regular and better attention
Oh my goodness Hugh! You seriously need to get down to your Canteen in Axminster. You have obviously taken your finger off the pulse or you would be aware of the sad state existing with some of your 'locally sourced food' How would you like to travel for two hours expecting the best of the best only to be served a sad sad roast dinner with completely burnt or soggy roast vegetables, watery gravy and lukewarm chicken. Your suppliers would be devastated if they could see what your kitchen staff are doing to their hand grown and reared meat and vegetables. Get off the television, stop writing books and raking in the money and concentrate on what you started in this business for, pleasing people with your enthusiasm and ideas. I fully intend you will see this, so I will be posting it to you as well. Utter shame on you, gone the same way as all your other colleagues, I thought you were above all that.
