  • We had been given a Christmas gift of a Sunday lunch at River Cottage HQ by our children. Today was probably not the best of weather, lots of showers, hail stones and then bright sunny spells but one ...  more »
  • This was a surprise birthday treat, and was ideal. The River Cottage ethos was evident from being dropped off by our taxi at the entrance to the farm where we transferred to a trailer towed by a tract...  more »
  • We were due to attend an evening with Hugh followed by a meal. Sadly Hugh was bedridden and could not attend, despite this we had an enjoyable meal.  more »
  • Lunch: poor service and average food. Waited 15 mins to be served drinks and a further 30 mins for food. Moreover, the lady at the adjacent table ordered the same meal as me but when my dish arrived it was a much smaller portion with different ingredients! When I queried why the discrepancy the waiter he denied that the dishes were different and did not offer to replace my dish - suspect they were at the end of one batch. The food itself was average at best and plainly overpriced. Overall a huge disappointment. What would Hugh say?!
  • Thought we would enjoy trip to River Cottage. Not good eating area in canteen needs refreshing (not so good needs a good scrub). Will not return for refreshment. Sorry
  • Considering the international reputation this place has, the food is nothing extraordinary, but it is nice. I'd say it is slightly overpriced as well, but it's worth checking out if you're in town. Breakfast is great here though and very reasonably priced!
  • Lunchtime Sept 6th. Enjoying a nice lunch for our group four and the food was superb. Varying choice of dishes and all Bar one were tasty and a joy to eat. However I order ox liver, specifically asking for it to be cooked so that the juices were running and soft. Waiter assured me that that was the was they way the cooked it and it would be soft. When it arrived it was hard as cardboard and a reminder of school meals in the 1960s. Didn't want to make a fuss as the accompanying veg was wonderful and my first course of ham hock was scrumsous and I was brought up not to waste food (as Hugh would probably appreciate)
  • Very underwhelming. Coffee was insipid. Cake was mediocre. We'd missed breakfast by 10 minutes and they wouldn't even serve us a cold pasty from the deli counter. Service was good or this would have been a one star review.
