Create an itinerary including Loch Morlich
Loch Morlich (Scottish Gaelic, Loch Mhùrlaig) is a freshwater loch in the Badenoch and Strathspey area of Highland, Scotland near Aviemore. The loch is home to a watersports centre with kayaking, sailing and windsurfing among the activities available. There is also a yacht club and cycling routes around the loch. The loch is at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains, just a few miles from Aviemore. As seen on Game of Thrones Season 5.

Long stretches of its shoreline are formed of sandy beaches. In 2009 these beaches received a Seaside Award by the Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) campaign, the first time that this had been given to a fresh water loch. At 300 metres above sea level it also became the highest beach to be given this award.
When examined closely the sand of these beaches contains large amounts of broken glass. However, this glass does not come from careless tourists discarding bottles irresponsibly, but is in fact left over from the Second World War when the area around Loch Morlich was used as a commando school. In particular it was used as a training area for the Kompani Linge (the Norwegian Independent (army) Company, trained by the British Special Operations Executive) because of the close resemblance of the area, both in landscape and climate, to Norway. A memorial to the Kompani Linge can be found outside the Glenmore Forest Park visitor centre.

  • A great find, must be the highest beach in the UK. Very busy even on a blustery day, lots of kayaking and paddleboarding here, with amazing views of the mountains beyond.

  • Loch Morlich (Lake Morlich) is a beautiful lake in Cairngorms National Park Scotland near Aviemore. The long stretch of sandy beaches and mountains around the lake gives a spectacular view. The view on a bright day is stunning. The cloudy day view and winter views are also nice. You can have water sport, walking, cycling around the lake. This lake is a highly recommended destination for your Scotland trip. Loch Morlich (Lake Morlich) video is on YouTube "London Aaga Bits" channel . • Fabulous place for swimming and other watersports, lots of families enjoying the area, dog friendly for responsible owners, beautiful sunsets, great triathlon organized there by Dirty events. Good toilet facilities and camping sites
  • Really amazing here, very picturesque and the water is so calm and warm in July. The mountains and forest border beautifully. Plenty to do, renting from the nearby water sports guys.
  • Loch Morlich is situated in the Cairngorms National Park a short drive from the lovely town of Aviemore. I have been several times, however took my two daughters over and enjoyed 27 degree sunny days and made the swimming very enjoyable to cool down. There are plenty of facilities on the beach, including watersports, food, ice-cream and drinks. Just beware that if it's a nice day then it's very busy, and therefore you may need to park quite a walk from the beach itself. Otherwise I can highly recommend for a great family day out.
  • Great beach in the mountains (sounds wierd but that's what it is). Good cafe (quite busy) and options to rent watersports gear. Parking gets busy but good value at £4 for the day (bring coins)
