Godinton House & Gardens, Ashford

4.7
#1 of 6 in Parks in Ashford
Godinton House has absorbed the history and culture of its region for six hundred years. It has been fortunate in having only two major changes in ownership in six hundred years.

The last owner, Alan Wyndham Green, founded the Godinton House Preservation Trust which is what funds the magnificent House and Gardens today.

  • A hidden gem near Hothfield village in Kent. Beautiful autumnal colours in the gardens during Autumn week which runs each year during the October half term (1pm until 4pm).There are different crafts for the children(and adults!) each afternoon usually with the ever popular pumpkin carving on the Friday. Our visit each year has become a family tradition. My kids are too old to dress in Halloween outfits now but fun to see the little ones in their scary masks. I don't know how they manage it, but it always feels such a peaceful place to go for the adults whilst the children have fun running around the gardens hunting out the hidden clues to solve the word puzzle and claim their treat. Tea rooms are lovely and traditional. Gluten free cake available. Lovely views, historic and interesting for all ages. Thanks to all the volunteers for yet another lovely afternoon. Best wishes, from a local family in Pluckley.
  • Beautiful and extensive gardens and very reasonably priced entrance fee. We paid £5 each for admission to the gardens only and spent the whole afternoon exploring. There are different areas including a walled garden, Italianate garden, rose garden, lily pond and wild area. It includes the longest yew hedge in Britain and within the house theres a tearoom. Tours are run at intervals around the house but we didn't have enough time for this.
  • Stunning gardens, loads of space to wander round. Could easily lose a day here. Didn't go into the house this time around, was too busy enjoying the sun.
  • Absolutely stunning gardens. Next visit will definitely involve a house tour
  • A Fantastic place to visit, while away an afternoon getting lost among the wild gardens and various fantasy sculptures scattered around the grounds, take a tour of the house and step back through years of amazing history, I take my hat off to the gentleman and his team who have turned the house and gardens into a wonderful place to visit,
