  • A great place for a visit with the family, especially if you go on the days they open the wood working rooms for wood turning etc. The train is great for getting around the site and there are plenty of activities or places to visit for the whole day. Only negatives are the food was average and pricey and entry is a little bit much. On balance a great day though.
  • Next time I visit this place, I will spend a whole day here. Got here yesterday at 3pm and it was nowhere near enough time to see everything. The railway centre concentrates mainly on the industrial (not passenger) use of Railways, but was still very interesting. The electricity exhibition next door was equally fascinating, some of the switchgear looks like something out of Frankensteins castle. The Carthorses were lovely, if as their owners said, were a little overworked. I look forward to returning soon.
  • The museum is full of interesting exhibits housed in outbuildings all over the extensive site. Something for everyone. Look out for regular themed events. The volunteers are knowledgeable and dedicated, only too pleased to chat about their field of expertise.
  • Where to start.. The car park is height restricted (not mentioned on website) so forget bringing a group as anything higher than a land rover won't be able to access the main car park. There is a separate area for coaches and this was full of standard vans / mini-buses and motor-homes but only 5'ish vehicles can park here. The vast majority of the exhibits were not staffed and some locked. Lastly and probably most importantly is that health and safety is ... well lets say lacking or amiss at times, a big review of risk assessments / duty of care is required. A considerable number of the exhibits contain ASBESTOS, not a problem if its managed and in good condition... but it isn't , some are in very poor condition / unsealed and no access restrictions ie you can touch them directly...Train driver allowing (and laughing at) his college picking up pins with bare hands that are so hot they drops it and masks an expletive. If you are over 5'10" then watch your head lots of low things things to bump into. A number of trip hazards.
  • First visit in over 25 years and hasn't really developed much since. Was expecting more but a nice day out. Would not recommend visiting on a wet day as it is virtually all out of doors
