Michelham Priory is the site of a former Augustine Priory in Upper Dicker, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom. The surviving buildings are owned and administered by the Sussex Archaeological Society and are Grade I and Grade II listed.
A T-shaped stone-built structure, the east and north wings date from the 13th century and the west wing from the 16th century. The north wing, originally the Priors Lodging, comprises three storeys with an attic and the other two wings two storeys. The roof is tiled. The whole is surrounded by a moat, enclosing an area of almost 8 acres (3.2 ha).
A watermill in the grounds of the priory has been restored to working order and is open to the public.

  • The nicest way to spend 4hrs is visiting the Priory. The gardens are genuinely some of the most beautiful we’ve seen. There are lots of benches available which on such a hot day made for a perfect.....  more »

  • Beautiful house (very knowledgeable volunteer who really entertained the grandchildren and included them in the discussion), grounds, playground and surprisingly quiet for a Saturday (31st August). Went there as a family (10 of us) and had a picnic in the grounds. Well worth a visit. Be aware that Gift Aiding increases the entrance fee - so choose not to.
  • A very special beautiful place. Tons of history and atmosphere. They also host the Sussex Guild of designer makers of contemporary crafts. Stunning world class work. Well worth a visit. Best place to get a unique present for the special person in your life. Or to treat yourself!
  • Fantastic slice of history. Would recommend going. On Saturday there is a group of archers, you can give it a go and at £1 for six arrows it's very affordable. On Sunday, and event days, you can watch award winning blacksmith, Nigel, working in the forge. My 2 kids (8 and 11) were mesmerized watching him make a metal snail (we bought one he'd made earlier and named it Nigel in his honour). A good day out and less crowded than many similar venues.
  • Fantastic place for all the family (children 17 and 14). Enjoyed a great day around the gardens and priory. Steeped in history and the 'pop up' guide was amazing, so friendly and knowledgeable about the area, made it interesting for all of us. Lovely café and shop. Can't recommend it highly enough.
  • A great day out in the Sussex countryside. We had a lovely time here, it's just so picturesque and steeped in history. The gardens are wonderful, and the house itself is magnificent. The moat around the whole place really tops it of. They have a great cafe and lots of things to keep the youngsters occupied. A marvellous day.
