Castle Stalker is a four-story tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe. It is about north-east of Port Appin, Argyll, Scotland, and is visible from the A828 road about mid-way between Oban and Glen Coe. The islet is accessible from the shore at low tide. The name "Stalker" comes from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning "hunter" or "falconer".In recent times, the castle was brought to fame by the Monty Python team, appearing in their film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.SettingThe island castle's picturesque appearance, with its bewitching island setting against a dramatic backdrop of mountains, has made it a favourite subject for postcards and calendars, and something of a cliché image of Scottish Highland scenery. Castle Stalker is entirely authentic; it is one of the best-preserved medieval tower-houses surviving in western Scotland. It forms part of the Lynn of Lorn National Scenic Area, one of forty in Scotland.

  • Well worth a trip to hear the history of the castle and how one family have restored it. A never ending work in progress and labour of love.
  • The Lake is like having sex in the middle of the float is a floating feeling abandoned Castle. Usually, you can look at to get a closer look from a distance. That's wonderful. Part of the Highlands day tour

  • This beautiful castle is in the middle of an island and we could see it fairly close by the ferry we took to go to the Isle of Mull. It has a special charm, there in the middle of an island surrounded by green and water. It was inaccessible until the arrival but we enjoy seeing it from quite close.
