Altrincham Market, Altrincham

(4.3/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Altrincham is one of the original market towns. It's charter dates back to 1290. Situated at the intersection of the fertile Cheshire farm belt and the commercial commuter zone of Manchester the town has a long and important history.

Altrincham Market is now at the heart of the re-invention of the town to make it 'the' modern market town.

Weekends host the very popular themed weekend markets covering regional food producers, vintage fashion and furniture, home house & garden and contemporary craft.

Market House has been converted into a "permanent gusto hub and canteen where people can eat from a variety of top notch food slingers" (according to Olive Magazine).

Market House is home to 10 independent quality food operators including Honest Crust wood fired pizza "among the country's best"; Wolfhouse Kitchen (former Rose Bakery pastry & savoury chefs); Tender Cow (rare breed flat iron steak & chips); Jack in the Box (craft beers); Reserve Wines (BBC Food & Drink Kate Goodman's wine bar/shop); Great North Pie Co. (multi award winning pies); Sam Joseph (hand made chocolates) and Market House Coffee (serving Atkinsons of Lancaster coffee).

There are no table reservations, and at peak times it can be very, very busy!

  • If you like indoor market style browsing, great food, beer and wine then Altrincham Market is well worth a visit. It is conveniently located near the station, just a 25 minute tram journey from centre...  more »
  • I come here a lot and always have fun. The trestle tables encourage you to chat with different people and that always brings a fun element to a night out.  more »
  • This place has totally reinvented itself over the past few years. It's now open until quite late and the general area at night is very pleasant. It's a great change from the main stretch of Altrincham...  more »

  • Despite the best efforts of the council to destroy it, Altrincham market lumbers on. We tend to use Mark's fruit and veg stall because the quality is high and prices are bargain basement. Plus he even has a loyalty card. There is a selection of other stalls that offer a variety of fresh produce including a fishmonger but it is a shadow of its former self, not helped by the ridiculous 'shelter' constructed at great expense, which provides no shelter whatsoever.
  • As other already commented, a striking market transformed into a collection of cafes and restaurants, with a common sitting area in te middle in a lovely old building. Nice family space and indoor seating always bursting with people. Great variety of good quality food (burgers, toasts, pizzas to name a few) and drinks from different stalls, although a bit pricey but it is well worth a visit for the experience. Toilets available accessible from outside of the building (1 inside for parents / baby changing area).
  • Really cool market. Loads of great stalls in the main market (selling anything from dried chillies to woolen throws) with a wonderful food court/ drinking Hall next door. Sadly we couldn't stay for food but the room was packed and food/ drink looked amazing!
  • Pricey place to go but very unique. I've never gone here for a bargain but the food is all premium quality.
  • Great market, something for everyone. The old market hall is a must for a bite to eat and a decent beer
