Alton Towers Theme Park, Alton

England's largest theme park, Alton Towers Theme Park rarely disappoints visitors of any age. If you want your adrenaline to flow, hop on the Smiler, the world's first 14-loop roller coaster. Let go of gravity and fly under footpaths and past trees and rocks on Air. Get wet on Congo River rapids and ride the runaway mine train. Let the special effects of the 4-D cinema dazzle you, and view over 300 species of fish, including sharks and rays, at Sharkbait Reef. Bring your bathing suit if you plan to visit the waterpark here. There are cartoon-themed attractions for little ones, and you can book a room at one of the on-site hotels if you wish to spend the night. • Alton towers Splash landings Hotel. Brilliant hotel for kids. Gaming room downstairs and lots to do. Hotel rooms very warm due to the swimming pool, each room supplied with a fan which is needed. Walking distance to each of the Alton towers hotels and to the monorail to get to the park itself. Overall good experience.
  • Now I know its Alton towers but I think its more hype.....Thorpe Park may be smaller but it has the same amount of big rides there. I remember going there when I was much younger and my memories from then are much better than when we went now. Not sure why.......of course, going to the kiddie side was not an option as my kids are grown up but regardless, I don't see us going there again in a hurry as the kids weren't impressed enough for us to do the three hour journey again. Its a nice theme park but that's about it.
  • Visited here for some family time and it was great. We stayed over for one night in the Enchanted Village and had two full days in the theme park. The accommodation was wonderful and food in The Crooked Spoon was nice. Although it rained the first day, it didn't spoil our fun but we were glad it was dry the second. Lots of fun to be had for all ages and we hope to go back again soon!
  • Whee, whoosh, wallop, winner! It's possibly the best theme park location in the UK, notice I said location, not actual theme park. The thing that makes Alton Towers great is where it is set, not the rides or attractions it offers. You could spend a whole day (or more) just wandering around the grounds soaking up the beautiful gardens and learning about the history of the place, and not step foot in a queue for a ride and still leave having had a nice day out while the kids run around tiring themselves out for the journey home. Don't get me wrong I love the rides, I have done since i was a child myself, and getting on Nemesis still gives me chills and memories going back to the first time I was there the year it opened. Standing in the queue waiting nervously and watching all of the other people going past screaming and flailing their arms around. The blood red river beneath you (no longer there) it really felt like you were waiting to get on a monster, and the anticipation and build up with the music and the smells was intense. Back to 2019 and there are a lot more newer , but not necessarily better rides. Some might argue that nostalgia has a lot to play here, but I feel that some of the older rides, with smaller queues have plenty offer for the thrill seeker in you. Heck even Hex is highly underrated and offers something that is unique in what it offers, especially if you get to take on a younger child who might believe what is being said. I'd cover the costs, parking charges, and food pricing etc. but it changes so often that seems like it would be pointless. I'd say grab a two for one offer if you are unsure, and bring a packed lunch if you don't want to spend a fortune, you could even enjoy it as a nice picnic in the gardens. I'll be back, and making more memories for my children, and hopefully they'll remember it as fondly as I do.
  • Every detail of this park is well thought out and it is beautifully themed. Absolutely gorgeous setting. Rides are a lot of fun, great range of thrill and family. Places to store your stuff during the rides. Went on a bank holiday and got on most rides, some of them twice. 13, Nemesis and Galactica are probably the best ones. Expensive day out but definitely value for money.
