  • We saw this castle ruin on a distance of the road. Could not resist to the happy times and the well marked exit to the ruins and the small church which is still in use. On a nice day you can come to your self and also delicious here still do a nice detour. And all free:)

  • Stopped on way back from Alnwick after seeing the castle there. Which was closed. And your not allowed dogs in. This in comparison was brilliant. Granted there's not much to see but what's there is fr...  more »
  • You can make out clearly how this castle would have looked as there are a lot of ruins left. The tower looks like it could fall down at any minute, a great little castle to visit for an hour.

  • A ruin in a picturesque setting. An interesting but unremarkable fortified manor dating back to the 12th century. Worth a visit on a fine day especially if visiting the nearby St John's church. Perimeter of the ruin can get boggy after rain so l suggest wearing appropiate footwear.
  • Interesting place to visit, lovely ruin, nice walk down the hill from the church. Well worth a visit.
  • Interesting but unspectacular ruin of a fortified Manor house. The surrounding area is beautiful, including the small nearby church which is worth a visit too.
  • Beautiful, small ruins of a castle near a viaduct in a scenic valley. Free to visit.
  • At the end of a short lane lies the St John the Baptist Chapel, with a tiny parking area which would start to get crowded with 3-4 cars. Through a gate is a path, just short of 1/4 mile long which heads down to the ruined castle. A few information signs give background information about the castle. To the south is a stream which runs down to a nice view of an aquaduct. The path only serves the castle and so its a return journey straight back to the car. If your in the area this is well worth stopping off for a break to look at
