  • We had a visit to Chillingham Castle as part of our tour around that area. This Castle is so different to other castles we have been to we were free to wander round most of it apart from the private q...  read more »
  • Fascinating place and unbelievable that this has been bought back from being a derelict building in the 80's. Certainly you can understand the shabby interior and the mix and match decor but that just...  read more »
  • I did not disappoint very spooky. Amazing garden in summer Great to go as a group. Very cold in winter take a torch you will need it.
  • The building was very impressive, and the gardens well laid out and well kept. The older parts of the castle were very interesting, especially King Edwards room, which I found fascinating. The lighting in the dungeon and torture chamber was very low, to give it a special atmosphere, but I found it a bit too dim, and couldn't make out what a lot of the 'equipment' was for. I was surprised in this day and age that the carpets in some of the rooms was badly rucked, and constituted a tripping hazard in my opinion. I found the 'Museum' just a junk room with little in the way of information on a lot of the exhibits. To be honest, if I had wanted to wonder around a junk yard, I wouldn't have bothered coming here. I have been a member of the National Trust, and English Heritage for a long time, and perhaps I have been spoilt by the plethora of information in contrast to Chillingham.
  • this was a great experience. its good to be able to handle most objects. quite a unique place to visit. be sure to see the wild cattle.
  • An unusual castle its a must visit lots of interesting information on different historical eras. lots to see and explore. The gardens are beautiful and lots of places to walk around and enjoy natures beauty. Didnt know it existed till i saw it advertised on Groupon
  • My sister & I stayed over night 24/10/2014 Had a fantastic time. We stayed in the Landseer apartment which i must say was lovely and clean with crisp white cotton sheets, we were very cosy with the log burning stove which was a lovely warm welcome after our ghost tour . The staff were all very helpful and friendly .we had a few spooky experiences including at 1am we went to the courtyard stood in the dark and when i say dark it is pitch black we both heard horses hooves coming and going it was very surreal , We had a wonderful night full of laughter and fear we will be going back to stay again . If you go take a torch as it is really dark after sunset ,
  • Awesome old Castle. Felt like I was stepping back to Medieval times. It's not large but it is enjoyable. The small gardens are a pleasure on a nice sunny day. The cafe is an authentic looking medieval room- unfortunately the food is quite lacking so go into it with an open mind and be happy your contributing some more to the restoration fund 😉
