Alnwick Castle, Alnwick

Built after the Norman conquest, Alnwick Castle is the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. The current duke and his family reside there but occupy only a small portion of the castle. The rest is open to the public throughout the good weather months. A guided tour will illuminate the history inside the castle's walls, where the rooms are decorated in grand Italian style. There's no shortage of rooms to tour, as Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England. The interior of the castle isn't the only attraction--the gardens are also a big draw. These formal, landscaped grounds surround a cascading fountain and, along with the castle, attract over 800,000 visitors a year. • Alnwick lies at the North-East coast of England. The castle is directly on the coast, where the beaches here among the most beautiful in all over the UK. Alnwick itself is a small place, so how one imagines it. Typical old stone houses, the old pubs, etc. There are small shops that you can visit. Here, you can forget the time. The castle is even inhabited. The visit is worthwhile in any case and is an experience for young and old. Especially since Harry Potter was filmed here in part. Accordingly, you should necessarily complete the broom flying school. A lot of fun. Who then have time and interested in nature should visit Alnwicks gardens. The lady has created a paradise here. With all possible plants and Geächsen. She got even permission to grow drug crops such as cannabis. And don't forget to visit the tree house.

  • Really enjoyed it here, cobbles not so good for wheelchairs but that can't be helped. In the state rooms we were offered the use of the lift to get upstairs which we appreciated otherwise my husband wouldn't have been able to see them. Truly lovely rooms
  • Great castle. Easily has the most things to do of any castle I've been to. Good for families especially Harry potter kids and kids that like to pretend to be knights and princesses
  • Great for kids and adults. Bring warm clothes, even if you think you don't need them. Lots of shade and chilly wind!
  • Loads to do - birds of prey show was great and the castle was very interesting, it's a shame you are not allowed to take pics inside though. The history inside is amazing. Even my 8 year old was kept interested and the very informative staff were not overpowering like they can be in places such as these,
  • Magical place to go with the kids. Unique castle and with all the Harry Potter connections lots to look out for. Nice activities for children too but a little commercialised.
