Alnwick Castle, Alnwick

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web
Built after the Norman conquest, Alnwick Castle is the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. The current duke and his family reside there but occupy only a small portion of the castle. The rest is open to the public throughout the good weather months. A guided tour will illuminate the history inside the castle's walls, where the rooms are decorated in grand Italian style. There's no shortage of rooms to tour, as Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England. The interior of the castle isn't the only attraction--the gardens are also a big draw. These formal, landscaped grounds surround a cascading fountain and, along with the castle, attract over 800,000 visitors a year. • This castle is expensive but it's worth it. They have lots of outdoor activities for the kids and it's easy to spend half a day or more here and be entertained for the entire time.
  • I enjoyed my visit very much on wed 22nd June everything about the castle was cool and could'nt ask for better weather. Then on my way for a cup of tea just outside gift shop my day was ruined as i got covered in a shower of bird droppings. Good job toilets were near as it was all over my shirt, back of my head, arms, shoe, and ipad. I did'nt stay for tea i was a bit of a mess. Allan.
  • A fantastic fun family day out! The castle is spectacular, the grounds are amazing and the entertainment brilliant. There is something for everyone with the history of the castle and family, the state rooms, tours, opportunities for medieval dress ups, archery and of course broomstick training. Staff are helpful and friendly, facilities are clean and very presentable. We loved every part of our day and that we could also enjoy the stunning Alnwick Gardens and Treehouse. The perfect venue to spend the day. We will definitely be back.
