  • The views from outside the castle are stunning! It was like something that you see in a movie. I would skip the museum and just focus on the outside. The museum didn't hold my interest - and I love mu...  more »
  • Abergavenny is a pretty town with plenty of history, much of it discoverable at the small but good quality museum at the Castle. The ruins are not expansive or well-signed, but certainly offer a taste...  more »

  • The grounds are so attractive enhanced with the inspiring graphic illustrations. However, this whole show and human effort put in is totally let down by the museum. Apart from the tramp-like curator, stubbing out his smoke as we entered, the scruffy exhibitions were totally irrelevant to the castle's history and experience. We were hoping for a historic review and a taste of 'life in the castle'. This should be the highlight of the visit, the jewel in the crown, but alas, our expectations were flattened.
  • As far as free places go, this is one of the best. Stunning grounds and plenty of information about the castle and life inside the castle made it a very interesting trip. The mesuem is small but packs a lot of information and artifacts in ranging from early man to WWII. Well worth a visit!
  • I grew up in Abergavenny, and returned to Wales for half term holidays. We took the kids to the castle. Grounds are excellent for the kids to play at Knights and Dragons, however when my just 3 year old needed the toilet we weren't allowed to use the museum's facilities as they were "just about to close for lunch"; 15 mins before the advertised closing time. Managed to get to the nearest public loo in the post office car park and back before the attendant actually locked up and left. The grounds are still excellent and worth a visit and the history is very interesting hence the 4stars but the welcome from staff is definitely lacking.
  • Beautiful views of the Blorange mountain. Very interesting exhibits in the museum which change regularly
  • Nice place to spend a few hours and it's free
