Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Aberdeen

4.6
Situated on the historic Shiprow in the center of Aberdeen, Aberdeen Maritime Museum tells the story of this maritime city and its rich history. Built in converted historical buildings, the museum offers spectacular views of the harbor. Enjoy interactive exhibits on fishing techniques, and even get the knack of how to park your ship in the harbor. Learn about the city's relationship with "North Boats," the offshore oil industry, the history of shipbuilding, and fast clipper ships. Entry is free and the museum is a good rainy-day activity. Furthermore, the museum provides a service on maritime objects and paintings, offering advice on potential value. If you drive, parking on Shiprow can be expensive, so park in a nearby shopping center and walk to the museum instead. Photography requires prior permission, so ask beforehand. • Though a very compact museum, there's a lot inside and its exhibits cover a variety of topics from Aberdeen's early history to more modern areas such as the oil field. Looking forward to going back so...  more »

  • Very interesting museum. Loved the area about North Sea Drilling, diving suits etc. The literature about the Alpha Rig fire was very informative. .. all in all a great place to visit. . and it's free..... Also a smashing little cafe..
  • Considering that it is free of charge you should absolutely pay this place a visit. It is a great museum. It offers information about Aberdeen harbour, the North Sea and oil and gas platforms (place is supported by the oil industry, which is visible but also leads so some interesting pieces to see). Nice view over the harbour. Good coffee in the Café. Very nice staff.
  • I've been there a number of times with visiting family members and friends. Good place for one to learn about oil and gas industry. Very informative and fun. Downstairs is a cafeteria (haven't visited myself) for someone who needs some energy to get going.
  • This is great. Gives a real impression of the oil industry. Staff are very enthusiastic. Recommended.
  • What a surprising treat! So much to take in, interactive areas and a quiz for the kids. All free too! Great access for those with mobility issues too.
