Jabal Bil Ays, Ras Al Khaimah

4.4
#1 of 29 in Things to do in Ras Al Khaimah
Take a ride up Jabal Bil Ays--at 1,934 m (6,316 ft) above sea level, the country's tallest mountain. On the way up, the winding road takes you between foothills and across rugged, rocky terrain boasting lots of interesting geological features. Pull over at one of the natural viewing areas and admire the impressive vistas that each twist and turn in the road provides. Rumor has it that the mountain will soon be getting the five-star treatment, with a hotel, cable car, golf course, and ski slope all planned, following the opening of the mountain road in 2015. Until then, it stands as an impressive natural landmark, with no facilities except for the road. Stock up with water and food before your journey, and drive carefully on the tortuous route. Put Jabal Bil Ays into our Ras Al Khaimah tour planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

The mountain is located at the border of United Emirates and Oman and is known to be highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, it took us a little over 2 hrs. to get here from Dubai but it was worth the drive. Numerous switch backs, steep climb, numerous stops to pull over for photo ops, once you get to the top, you see a lot of locals and tourists just camping, bbqing, relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. I would recommend a drive down if you are done with seeing everything that Dubai has to offer first.

Great place! Nature is amazing, good road even though it's a bit of a drive up there, especially if you're coming from other Emirates. There are areas where people can have a picnic and/or take pictures. There's also a cafeteria selling snacks and restrooms.
