Al Bidya Mosque, Fujairah

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Admire the architectural ingenuity of Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest extant mosque in the country. The mud and stone structure uses no wood, creating a seamless form set against a rocky backdrop. The lack of wood means that radiocarbon dating cannot be performed, so the building's age cannot be determined for certain--though it is thought to date back to the 15th century. The small, square, whitewashed structure features four domes, supported by only one central pillar, once again creating a continuity of design unseen in modern mosques.
