Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum's House, Dubai

History Museum Museum
Steep yourself in the city's past at Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum's House, home of Dubai's former ruler. Built in 1896, the house displays a simple, traditional form of architecture, with wind towers and whitewashed walls. Set on the side of the creek, the residence represents the focal point of the restored historical district, both architecturally and as the residence of the man who led Dubai from 1912 until his death in 1958. Head inside to the museum, where you'll find a host of interesting artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the old city during the pre-oil years, including an exhibit detailing the history of pearl-diving here. The interior remains charmingly austere compared with modern design in the country. Using our online itinerary creator, Dubai attractions like Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum's House can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • sleepy old museum along the water in old dubai. good to visit. simple entry. snack shops available close by.
  • A historical place the house of the Former ruler of Dubai Its a historical building which has been renovated to its glory. The building is huge and only a part of it is open for our viewing. The galleries are good but could have been done better. The specialty of this place is in the wind towers which have been restored and do check that out. The view from the first floor is great and do not miss that.
  • One of the most attractive place to be visited and enjoy seeing how it was the living conditions of the old Dubai and showing how it is the relationship between the ruler and the citizen. Amazing things to discover.
  • Quite a nice place to spend about one hour plus. Some of the exhibits are yet to open. All of the rooms are air conditioned with plenty of benches around the area to sit down and rest. Should put in more information to compliment the pictures showcased here.
  • This is historical nd famous palace in Bur Dubai. You can see the history and traditional life style of khalifa Open for public really lovely palace...

Where to stay in Dubai

Dubai is a city of hotels, with most of the world's leading chains represented. Rooms remain expensive and luxurious, as most establishments cater to visitors with deeper pockets. You can still save money on accommodations if you look hard enough. Move away from the coast for more affordable backpacker hostels and self-service apartments, as well as less expensive hotel rooms where a lack of luxurious amenities and less appealing views keep rates suited to budget travelers.
