Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum's House, Dubai

3.9
#3 of 34 in Museums in Dubai
Steep yourself in the city's past at Sheikh Saeed al-Maktoum's House, home of Dubai's former ruler. Built in 1896, the house displays a simple, traditional form of architecture, with wind towers and whitewashed walls. Set on the side of the creek, the residence represents the focal point of the restored historical district, both architecturally and as the residence of the man who led Dubai from 1912 until his death in 1958. Head inside to the museum, where you'll find a host of interesting artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the old city during the pre-oil years, including an exhibit detailing the history of pearl-diving here. The interior remains charmingly austere compared with modern design in the country. • The Maktoum family house near the Heritage village allows you to enter an unknown world of past atmospheres. With 3 diram you enter the wide dirt court where there is a first exhibition of historical photos. In the different rooms there are pictures of old Dubai and its traditions. Don't miss the ancient wind Tower and functional system of conditioning. Air enters from the top and goes down inside to cool environments before recovering in fireplaces apart. Nice all If this review did you like, you can read about my many other for Dubai and Abu Dhabi and I like clicking on: is it useful?

  • Since August is out of season, worked the apparently with improvements of the place. We were greeted with large fences and posters that show that it is working with the fixes and changes. We actually found no holes in the fence to get in, and since the heat was intense that day, approached 50 degrees in the shade, so was it to seek refuge where we came from, Al Ghubaiba Metro station. What we did see was something outside, we had previously seen some from a boat, so next time we hope to come in. The old house stands in great contrast to his sister's House a little bit further up along the Dubai Creek.

  • If you want to look back a history of Dubai there is one respectable place to see it in photos - Shaikh Saeed Al-Maktoum family. There are ancient photos of al-Maktoum family, Dubai and art, music, and literature. Some of the antique photos has been used in adornment of Dubai This is the place to be if you want to gain an detailed insight into the antiquity of Dubai as you explore the habitation of a former ruler of Dubai (the grandfather of the present ruler). While remembering the old charm of a home, the house has also been transformed into a museum with an striking collection of exhibits.
  • Free entry, very nice building with a cafeteria inside. Worth seeing to see how a sheikh's house looked like
  • sleepy old museum along the water in old dubai. good to visit. simple entry. snack shops available close by.
  • Great place ♥️
  • A historical place the house of the Former ruler of Dubai Its a historical building which has been renovated to its glory. The building is huge and only a part of it is open for our viewing. The galleries are good but could have been done better. The specialty of this place is in the wind towers which have been restored and do check that out. The view from the first floor is great and do not miss that.

Where to stay in Dubai

Dubai is a city of hotels, with most of the world's leading chains represented. Rooms remain expensive and luxurious, as most establishments cater to visitors with deeper pockets. You can still save money on accommodations if you look hard enough. Move away from the coast for more affordable backpacker hostels and self-service apartments, as well as less expensive hotel rooms where a lack of luxurious amenities and less appealing views keep rates suited to budget travelers.
