3.9/5 based on 4,000+ reviews on the web
See another side of Dubai at Al Fahidi Fort, detailing the history of the city and its people. Located within the grounds of a former fort--built in 1787, it is the oldest existing building in Dubai--the museum tells the story of trade and development in the city before the discovery of oil. Explore the main galleries for interesting exhibits and artifacts showing the local way of life, with particular focus on the 1800s and the independent traders and seafarers that lived in the port city at the time. Enjoy walking around the life-size replicas of family homes, a model mosque, and a recreated street market. • Interesting to see the progress of a town founded in the middle of the desert. Nice note the commitment and efforts, the Sheik's passion for his people. Parking is an issue, the Museum resides in a busy area.

  • Nice place to learn something about the pre-oil history of UAE. The place itself is small, but you can spent almost an hour there easily. The entry fee is symbolic 3 dirhams.
  • Terrific value, great introduction to Dubai history and culture. A real don't miss in Dubai. A bit away from the new parts of the city, but with the inexpensive and superb transport network in Dubai it's easy to reach.
  • Was good to see the history of Dubai, probably the only real bit of culture we found on this trip. Museum only took an hour to look around, but was worth it.
  • Historial area in Bur Dubai region. Know the history of Dubai, be inspired and be more successful. :)
  • Somewhat underwhelming. The museum is nice and you can learn quite a bit about the historic and contemporary pre-oil Dubai and what is now the UAE. The admission fee is tiny, more like a symbolic payment than anything. The museum itself is quite small really, but you could spend an hour or a bit more here easily. It's a little out of the ways of the main tourist areas around the Burj Khalifa, but quite close to the Spice and Gold Souqs ie. right across the river. You can catch a small ferry boat across at the nearby pier. Alas the whole exhibit seems to be light on actual artifacts and borrows a lot content type from theme parks. Feels a little like it's manufactured. Still worth to check out thought if you're visiting Dubai, especially in combination with the Souqs. There wasn't a lot of people when we went, but that was in the middle of the day so that might be the reason.
