Popov Castle, Vasylivka

(4.4/5 based on a few reviews on the web)
The Popov Castle is a castle-like rural residence built between 1864 and 1884 near the town of Vasylivka, Ukraine by Vasili Popov Jr. (a grandson of General Vasili Stepanovich Popov). Its Gothic Revival design is attributed to Nicholas Benois. The main house had a telescope, a picture gallery, and an ethnographic museum. The castle was looted by the Bolsheviks and ruined by the Germans in the Second World War. Restoration works did not start until the 1990s.

  • Interesting architectural complex, the Museum is a little skuchnovat due to the excessive number of stands and documents on them. Although some household items were good and interested in: scales, toilet bowl of the English company, kettle, keys, locks, etc. Manor House Popov is most interesting: different styles of architecture are combined on one territory. Liked the observation tower in an eclectic style and English neo-Gothic-style castle. Unfortunately, there is no nature reserve souvenirs.

  • In our society there is a stereotype that locks are only in Western Ukraine. But this is not so. A great castle with interesting history is not far from Zaporozhye. Find it easy enough, there are pointers. Entry price is very small, so visit it may even thrifty travelers. The estate belonged to major-general Popov and has many legends. Unfortunately, due to the Soviet authorities, local residents and time until we reached only a small part of its former beauty. Stayed home Popova which used to be 15 ethnographic rooms, decorated in various styles, where in each room were mechanical dolls (dolls not survived their defeated the Bolsheviks). Now you can see a small museum where you can see what size and how the Castle looked like in the past, some of the interior decorations and houseware. Of the buildings still have stables, Coach-House and Chapel, guest wings and towers. We really liked it. It is a pity that the castle to quietly continues to crumble ((

  • Went with friends on the way to the Zoo. Entrance fee 10 UAH, the museum itself was not impressed. say there are ekskurssiâ in the cellars of the Castle, but it must be booked in advance and if the man meet 6. The Castle and its impressive ruins, a great place for photo shoots.
