Potemkin Steps, Odessa
(3.2/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Odessa's best-known city landmark and symbol, Potemkin Steps also served as the site for a famous early film scene. The 1925 film "Battleship Potemkin" used the steps as the stage for a fictionalized massacre of civilians by Tsarist forces and a naval mutiny on a ship of the same name. You can walk the steps yourself along the seaward-facing entrance to town and see the optical illusion that makes it appear as a continuous staircase or a continuous landing from the bottom and top, respectively. Bring your camera; from the top of the stairs you can get a sweeping view over the bay and harbor. • I got to visit this long and grand staircase last year, makes a certain effect underlie the staircase and then look it up, tons of stairs that seem to have no end .... There's nothing architecturally impressive, but has a remarkable and historic charm ... and for those unfamiliar with the history of the Russian Revolution , definitely comes to mind the famous movie Fantozzi:D

  • not so great, as highlighted everywhere. Currently is being renovated now. I was a bit disappointed. But the staircase is very centrally located and walking past probably anyway at some point.
