Despite the small parameters of the museum (total area of exhibition space is 160 sq meters) “Migdal Shorashim” serves as the only Jewish museum in all of the Ukraine where over a period of 9 years it has gathered a rich collection of almost 15000 materials (including documents, photographs, books, newspapers, postcards, religious garment, household goods, music instruments and other pieces of art).

Every year the museum receives thousands of guests, leads a great number of excursions and tours, welcomes numerous researchers and students from the USA, Israel, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Brasil, Eastern Europian countries and other countries around the world.

The museum also supports initiatives in the area of Jewish research and in its joined efforts with other Jewish organizations, Ukrainian state museums, archives, and various universities in the city and the grater Ukraine not to mention a great number of foreign specialists and researchers, works to popularize Jewish history of Odessa.

  • There were a lot of artifacts however no descriptions or stories. Compared to other jewish museums, this just seemed like an old home with a few people wandering through.

  • The first is this hard to find For the other be sure to have an interpreter, or guid, then you will really benefit from the trip I guess this is a small property where stuff is collected or provided by Jewish families but the story he tells with pride shows that it was not quite easy to live as a Jew in the East block countries , even if it was not bad at all in Ukraine But the frugal Jews also managed this very informative and good to have been seen this even for one that is not itself a Jew I was really touched

  • Highly recommended for a low-paced retreat to the past. The Jewish museum is a community museum that holds gifts of Jewish families. It is hence not arranged chronologically. The manager has plenty of personal stories to tell concerning the exhibitions and loves a good chat. Museum is hidden in the back of a courtyard. Enter building 66 and you'll see it straight ahead. Works on a basis of suggested donations of 50-100 UAH per person.
  • Nice museum with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Hard to find, but worth the search. Sad that this us all that's left from a community that used to be 45% of Odessa's population. Entrance is free, but please go and donate, or this place won't last long.
