Duke de Richelieu monument, Odessa
(4.2/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Duke de Richelieu monument stands dedicated to the city's first mayor appointed by Tsar Alexander І, who transformed Odessa from a sleepy village to the third-greatest city in the empire. In order to show appreciation for 11 years of service, the government and the city's residents built the monument for the French duke in 1826. Sitting at a square atop the Potemkin stairs, this statue serves as one of the city's symbols. At its base, you'll see bronze reliefs and coins from different periods of the empire. Pay attention to the cannonball that hit the structure once--it's now imbedded in the monument. The location offers unmatched views of the port and is also a famous meeting point. • Wanted to visit Odessa to see the legendary Duke and Potemkinsku staircase. Both lived up to the expectations. Primorskiy Boulevard, Duke, ladder-can't believe you see it live.

  • The monument, located in the historic city centre, looking into the distance of the sea, not worth watching in the second Luke (who knows that will understand). However, the condition of the monument could be better.

  • Everything is OK. What can we say about the monument-MONUMENT point. depressing view of the reconstructed the Potemkin stairs.
