Duke de Richelieu monument stands dedicated to the city's first mayor appointed by Tsar Alexander І, who transformed Odessa from a sleepy village to the third-greatest city in the empire. In order to show appreciation for 11 years of service, the government and the city's residents built the monument for the French duke in 1826. Sitting at a square atop the Potemkin stairs, this statue serves as one of the city's symbols. At its base, you'll see bronze reliefs and coins from different periods of the empire. Pay attention to the cannonball that hit the structure once--it's now imbedded in the monument. The location offers unmatched views of the port and is also a famous meeting point. • This monument is made from Italian hands. The peculiarity is that the Duke de Richelieu is dressed like a Roman Senator in the hands of the law (Roman). I highly recommend it

  • Monument to Duke de Richelieu, or as it is called Odessa "Duke *, counterpoint of the Primorsky Boulevard. Here are the top things converges: Primorskiy Boulevard, sea, Marina, ekaterininskaya square, perhaps the best not only in Odessa. The monument is very good and bears the distinctive mark of the city's history traces of bullets and bombing of the city cores Anglo-French squadron in the 19 century. Legendary place!
