Landmark Tourist Spot
The Vorontsov Palace is a 19th-century palace and colonnade in Odessa, Ukraine, at the end of the Primorsky Boulevard pedestrian walkway.HistoryThe buildings were built between 1827 and 1830 by the Sardinian-born architect Francesco Boffo for Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, one of the governor-generals of the Odessa region. Vorontsov chose to build his city palace on the spot where the former governor general Richelieu's humble house had once stood. Vorontsov was so impressed with Boffo's work, that he contracted Boffo to design the Potemkin Stairs. In 1906 it became an engineering school. During this time, next to the former palace was Lloyd's Travel Agency where the city's elite could purchase tickets for their trips abroad. In 1917 it was the headquarters of the Soviet Red Guards, and in March 1917 the first Soviet of Workers' and Sailors' Deputies met in the building. In 1936 the Vorontsov Palace was acquired by the Young Pioneers, and renamed the Children's Palace. The present day palace is only the front part of the original structure, the less valuable part of the complex, the Orlov wing was torn down. The Orlov wing was mainly apartments and outbuildings—nicknamed the "Orlovsky outhouse", it stretched from today's Mother-in-Law's Bridge.

  • Walking by Vorotonsov´s Palace and its Colomnade, we are able to go back to the past and imagine how life might have been then. Super worth the visit!  more »
  • For a view on the harbor this place could be a good target for a stroll on a lazy afternoon. This brings you to the old part of Odessa and I would recommend to read a little about it's history.  more »

  • Could be great tourist attraction if not for the city officials neglecting it.
  • It always catches your eye, but I didn't see an entrance. What is it like inside?
  • Very beautiful Palace. Lovely rooms, some even restored. The amazing parquet. If lead building in order and leave residents — it can be a cultural centre of Odessa. While there are naphthalene grannies that effectively protect the building from Kuchm and others wishing to build his villa in the heart of Odessa.

  • As the evening passed, and on the summer terrace is straight in front of the Palace played classical music, under which people danced (waltzes), someone stood enjoyed. It was unforgettable. It was very interesting to watch (myself-I don't know how to dance). Beautiful place, full of positive energy.

  • The former residence of General Vorontsov. Very beautiful building architecture lovers, I'm sure I will enjoy the performance in the style of romanticism era Empire. Fits perfectly into the overall style of the city, and the surrounding buildings in particular. 5 +
