Catacombs of Odessa, Nerubayskoye

(4.3/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Grab a torch and step into Catacombs of Odessa, a complex of tunnels, labyrinths, and caves below the city. Spread throughout three levels, these structures first served as limestone mines. Over time, local criminals made use of the darkness and the site became the subject of fear. Although some of it has been restored for the purpose of tourism, the largest portion has never been mapped. There are about 1,000 possible exits from the site, and the length of all the burrows totals 2,500 km (1,550 mi)--longer than a trip to Paris. Be sure you have a map and plenty of water. Do not go without a guide; many people have gotten lost here, and some were never found. Use our Nerubayskoye travel itinerary planner to add Catacombs of Odessa and other attractions to your Nerubayskoye vacation plans.

  • Independent visit is wasted money, just basements and all! The guide will tell you the story that gets stuck in your soul for a long time. And end of exposure actually compresses the heart ... I cried, my husband was impressed.

  • Well worth going to the catacombs to learn some of Odessa's history, and about the anti-fascist partisans who used them as a base. You can go by mashrutka if you speak Russian or Ukrainian - its about...  more »
  • In the catacombs without a guide to do nothing and simply you can get lost. Those who expect the catacombs then over incredible or original, must understand that they were created for another. Was very happy that I was able to visit the tour after its end there is the possibility of going to war materiel. For children is ideal
