Nikolaev Zoo, Mykolayiv

(3.6/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Nestled in a pristine green area, provides for about 2,800 animals representing 377 species, some of which are endangered. Dating back to 1901, the zoo started off as the private aquarium collection of the mayor. Over time, it grew into an institution with one of the richest varieties of animals in the country. In 2003, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums added it to their list, making it the first one in Ukraine to be internationally certified. Walk through the grounds and encounter wild and domestic animals of all kinds and sizes: you'll see tigers at play, observe hippopotamuses, and watch the monkeys. • The best zoo in Ukraine. Animals fed. Good enclosures. I recommend to look at a couple of young polar bears.
