Armenian Virgin Mary's Dormition Church, Lviv

(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
In a quaint neighborhood of the old town, Armenian Virgin Mary's Dormition Church attracts visitors with its tall castle-like tower and picturesque interior spaces. Originally built in 1363, this structure suffered devastating fire damage in 1527. It was restored to its nearly original appearance between 1908 and 1927. Visit colonnade-lined yards and lavish interiors featuring precious icons of St. Gregory and the Virgin Mary, which were brought to the site in the 1600s. Observe the abundantly decorated domes and look for the 18th-century wooden altar. Outside you'll see an Armenian cemetery; some of the graves here date back to the 16th century. • When you get to the courtyard of the Cathedral, the story captures you from anywhere, literally and figuratively. Here we met a man dressed in the clothes of 18-19 centuries. Imagine you're looking for, snap, parties and suddenly appears from behind a corner "historical identity". First, a little obaldevaesh', then you cover curiosity peremeshannoe with fear (suddenly here temporal Eddy, transports you to the 200 years ago). And when a man begins to talk with you, you pryskaesh' with laughter from their own imaginations. Pochuditsja the heck is? And another in the courtyard of the Armenian Cathedral filmed the legendary fil'm"Dartan'jan and the three Musketeers. "

  • Very interesting from the point of view of Cathedral architecture. Frescos on the walls and ceiling is just something. Most impressed me a statue of the Virgin Mary with the baby. Be sure to advise you to visit the Armenian Cathedral.
